Eyes on Milwaukee: $7.5 Million Grant Will Help Create 5,000 New Minority Homeowners

ICYMI (In Case You Missed It): 🔈
The Community Development Alliance (CDA) is allocating $2 million of the grant to Acts Housing's new acquisition fund. The fund is intended to preserve or create affordable housing by purchasing batches of properties and reselling homes to targeted owner-occupants instead of watching out-of-state investors build local portfolios. They also received a major boost with Wells Fargo awarding a $7.5 million grant. Read about these exciting investments and developments in Urban Milwaukee article.

Data You Can Choose seeks applications for the Data Dream Award. Winners will realize their “data dream” through the professional services of DYCU and expertise of our partners. Milwaukee-area nonprofits will be selected through a competitive process and awarded at Data Day on October 19, 2022.

A Data Dream is an opportunity for an organization to move beyond limitations created by a lack of information, limited capacity to interpret data already collected, or a combination of both. Applicants share what would be different if their nonprofit had access to more information or data —how their planning, service provision, results, or funding might be improved with access to assistance in securing, analyzing, visualizing or presenting data. Data You Can Use staff, in partnership with students from UWM Marquette, and Northwestern Mutual data scientists, works over the next 3-9 months.

Today, we're proud to share the recording of an amazing program: Revitalization Through Preservation, which took place last week with Husch Blackwell and our own director Jeremy Ebersole as part of Urban Economic Development Association of WI (UEDA)'s Emerging Topics Series.

Check it out below for an informative look at how to approach different types of preservation projects, the benefits of using historic tax credits, and an in-depth look at the incredible Save the Soldiers Home restoration project, which MPA made possible through over a decade of advocacy.

Last week, Milwaukee Preservation Alliance, Inc. joined Husch Blackwell for a Revitalization Through Preservation, a presentation hosted by Urban Economic Development Association of WI (UEDA). MPA's Executive Director, Jeremy Ebersole shared how the recently completed Soldiers Home project created affordable housing, enlivened an historic campus and honored veterans.
