🌱 Mission Moment: Growing a Stronger Community Together

At CES, we turn Hunger into Hope. And sometimes, that means looking beyond the food on the shelves and asking how we can create more hope in our community.

Recently, our board and staff visited a farm in Loretto that is part of the Route 1 network. We met the farmers, learned about what they grow, and saw firsthand the possibilities of connecting their harvest with the neighbors who visit CES.

Our emerging partnership with Route 1 allows CES to purchase, at a discounted rate, fresh, locally grown produce from emerging and immigrant farmers and bring to share with the families and individuals we serve.

It creates a beautiful cycle:

🌱 A farmer gains a dependable market.
🥕 CES brings fresh, nutritious, culturally familiar food to our neighbors.
❤️ A family experiencing hunger has more choices at the table.
♻️ More food stays in our community instead of going to waste.

We believe we can fight hunger while also investing in the people who grow our food. We can support one neighbor while helping another build a sustainable livelihood.

That is Hunger into Hope. And that is the kind of community we want to keep building together.

Our spice shelf could use a little flavor. 🌶️

This Wish List Wednesday, spices are at the top of our list. They may be small, but they can make a big difference, helping turn everyday ingredients into meals that feel familiar and taste like home.

Cumin, chili powder, cinnamon, turmeric, garlic powder and more give our neighbors more choice in preparing the foods their families know and love.

Help us restock the shelf! Drop off spice donations at CES, 1900 11th Ave S, Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 12 PM. No appointment needed.

A big thank you to the students and adults from Cotter Schools in Winona, MN, who recently spent a day with us volunteering!

The group jumped right in to help in our Food Market, stocking shelves, labeling, sorting produce, and tackling other projects that help keep the market running smoothly. 🥕📦

Today, we’re coming together to celebrate the resilience of our neighbors and the incredible strength of a community that shows up for one another. Together, we’re turning Hunger into Hope!

Our goal is to raise $100,000, and thanks to our generous matching gift donors, every dollar raised will be matched, doubling our impact to $200,000! That means so many more nourishing meals for our neighbors and so much more hunger turned into hope. 💚

Before CES's Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers hit the road, there’s a whole lot happening behind the scenes. 📦❤️

Every morning, CES staff and volunteers work together to pack and prepare hundreds of Meals on Wheels deliveries before our volunteer drivers arrive.

Last year, CES Meals on Wheels delivered more than 82,000 meals to 532 seniors and adults with limited mobility. That’s a pretty big production, and it takes a dedicated team to keep it moving!

And every bag carries more than a meal. It brings nourishing food, a friendly face, a wellness check, and a moment of connection to a neighbor’s door.

CES is looking for workplace teams to adopt a Meals on Wheels route and help deliver nutritious meals to seniors. All it takes is one hour over lunchtime!

Whether your team can commit to once a week, every other week, once a month, or another schedule that works for you, your time can make a meaningful difference.

Every delivery is more than a meal. It’s a friendly face, a wellness check, and a moment of connection for someone who may otherwise feel isolated. By adopting a route, your team can build volunteering into your routine while helping neighbors remain nourished, connected, and supported.

At CES, neighbors shop for the foods that work best for their households, and fresh produce is always a popular item.
