We love Whittier. We want to see a safe, thriving neighborhood for everyone.

We think that takes EVERYONE responsible working together. Our piece of the puzzle is neighbors.

We hope you'll join us for a community safety meeting to hear what's happening, share experiences, meet neighbors, and talk through what we can do as a community to support the neighborhood that we love.

We are glad to see the suspect at the 28th & Nicollet standoff was apprehended, and no one was injured or killed.

We are also deeply hoping to see less violence and fear in our neighborhood.

If you are an affected resident, you are welcome to email Anna, Whittier Alliance's Executive Director, about any needs you have ([email protected]). We will do our best to help you.

NEIGHBORHOOD DAY! ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒทโœจ

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to celebrate Whittier this Saturday! We had so much fun + can't wait for next year.

Big recommendation for letting neighbors fill in "Talk to me about..." name tags, because then you might have a 6-year-old girl with a name tag that says "Talk to me about... gatitos" ๐Ÿฅน

Special thank you to , , , the Minneapolis First SDA Church, and Whittier Community Ed for providing such wonderful activities for neighbors!

"This is a hardworking, resilient, melting pot - I'm blessed to serve all of them"

The long legacy of business on Eat Street is facing an uncertain future. We've hit our original goal, and we're planning to write checks later this month. Every additional dollar we raise before then means more money for these businesses. These businesses are facing shortfall - this funding will make a huge difference.

Nick Nelson runs Nelson's Green Garage in a building that's been fixing cars since 1916. Born and raised in South Minneapolis, Nick rode his bike down this vibrant corridor as a kid. Now he operates a small family-owned shop serving a diverse customer base on a street that helps people with what everyone needs: good transportation, good food, a safe place. The lingering financial impact of immigration activity has been huge. People are afraid. But Nick and this whole community have proved resilient - they're still here and ready to take care of people.

SPEAK MPLS talked with Nick about continuing over a century of automotive tradition on Eat Street, what it means to serve a diverse community through uncertainty, and why this corridor remains an amazing place worth showing up for.

This is the seventh in a series of conversations with the people of Eat Street, stay tuned for more. We hope these stories will inspire you to visit, share and donate.
