Baker High School is excited to announce that senior Khanh "Ly" Do has been named a Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Ly was entered into this program by taking the PSAT-NMSQT during her junior year. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. Ly will now continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships.

It’s TALL Tuesday, and today we’re proud to spotlight Connor Benefield of Baker High School!

Connor plans to pursue either a degree in Forensic Chemistry or Crime Scene Investigation at the University of Southern Mississippi, with the goal of building a career in forensic science. His interest in this field reflects his curiosity, attention to detail, and commitment to making a difference.

At Baker High School, Connor is a member of Key Club and the National Honor Society. He also serves as a member of the Drug Education Council’s City/County Youth Council, demonstrating his commitment to leadership and community involvement.

Outside of school, Connor enjoys reading and collecting antiques. We’re excited to see where his passion and dedication take him as he works toward his future in forensic science!

Baker High School will administer the PSAT-National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test on Tuesday, October 6th. Any junior or sophomore interested in taking the assessment should pick up a registration form from Mrs. Agnew in room 111. Forms can also be found on the 10th and 11th grade counseling Schoology pages. Forms and the $18 test fee are due by Friday, September 25. Contact Mrs. Agnew at [email protected] with questions.

Why take the test?
11th Grade Students: This test is your only avenue to qualify for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program.
10th Grade Students: Taking this assessment now will help prepare you for testing in 11th grade and will allow you to improve your test taking skills.

Yesterday, our Baker High School Early Childhood Education Academy students had the opportunity to participate in their first field experience of the school year at Gilliard Elementary School! Our students stepped outside of the classroom and into a real elementary school setting, where they were able to observe teachers, interact with students, and see early childhood education in action. Experiences like this allow our future educators to connect what they are learning in class to real-world teaching and learning. A huge THANK YOU to Gilliard Elementary for welcoming our students and partnering with the Baker High School ECE Academy. We truly appreciate the opportunity you are providing for our future educators.
