⚡ When thunder roars, go indoors. Lightning can strike miles away from a storm and poses a serious risk to anyone outdoors. If you hear thunder, move to a substantial building or a hard-topped vehicle immediately.

Remember: wait at least 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder before returning outside.
A few minutes of patience can make all the difference.

Summer celebrations and fireworks often go hand in hand, but safety should always come first. Each year, fireworks cause thousands of injuries, wildfires, and structure fires across the country.

The safest way to celebrate is by attending a professional fireworks display and leaving the fireworks to trained experts. As a reminder, fireworks of any kind are not permitted within the Town of Monument.
