This week, we had the honor of attending two very special awards ceremonies recognizing first responders who recently made a life-saving difference. In just the past few months, Morgantown firefighters achieved successful resuscitations from full cardiac arrest on not just one, but two separate occasions. Even more remarkably, both survivors have returned to their regular, everyday lives—an incredibly rare outcome. According to the American Red Cross, fewer than 9% of cardiac arrest survivors are discharged from the hospital with ordinary neurological function.
We are beyond proud to recognize the firefighters whose extraordinary skill, teamwork, and commitment made these outcomes possible: Hunter Bishop, Caleb Vernon, Chris Deberry, Trevor Pickenpaugh, Dan Levin, Kaden Nelson, David Ross Jr., and Lt. Eric Nickelson. Their dedication to protecting and serving our community goes above and beyond, and we are incredibly grateful to have them on our team. 🫡
It was a privilege to celebrate alongside Monongalia EMS, whose highly proficient and knowledgeable team played a critical role in these life-saving outcomes as well. Moments like these are a powerful reminder that a coordinated, all-hands response can truly make a difference. We're grateful to work with Mon EMS and we thank them for their continued commitment to serving our community! 🤝
