Each May, our nation comes together to honor the courage, sacrifice and dedication of law enforcement officers. Originally established by presidential proclamation President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Police Week includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th and a week of observances recognizing officers who have given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve and protect our communities with dedication and courage. National Police week is both a time of solemn remembrance and a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day. It reminds us that behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice and family.

While it’s not possible for us to attend this memorial to honor those who protected and served their communities and “gave the ultimate sacrifice”, it is our duty to take a moment to remember and thank those who protect our great country every day. They put their lives in harm’s way to protect our citizens, and they deserve our deepest respect and gratitude. To display our respect for those whom “gave the ultimate sacrifice” we will Donn our mourning bands from midnight on May 10th, until midnight on the 15th of May, these dates coincide with “Police Week”. We proudly, with humility and honor serve.

Good Morning Mt. Angel! We find ourselves in possession of this gentle older sole, who was found wandering around the Middle School this morning. He is wearing a nice black harness for walks, but no tags. Can you help us find his home? If so, give us a call at 503-845-9294 and ask for Officer Harrell Jr. Thanks in advance!

Officer Harrell Jr. is hoping you have seen this dog before and can help us see that it makes it back home. Can you help? If so, call the Mt. Angel Police at 503-845-9294 as soon as possible so that we don't have to take it to Salem (dog jail). This wandering K-9 was found at Humpert Park. Thank you in advance!

Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation Begins in Mt. Angel, Oregon on 04/13/2026:

The Spring is here and the weather is getting warmer, which means more pedestrians will soon be on the streets. As part of its ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety in the City of Mt. Angel, the Mt. Angel Police Department will be conducting a Three (3) hour long pedestrian safety enforcement operation that will focus on motorists who fail to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians.

Regrettably, in 2024 there were 7,148 pedestrians killed. This 2024 total shows a nearly 20% increase compared to 2016 levels. The Mt. Angel Police Department is committed to preventing these tragic deaths and is leading the effort with proactive enforcement and education programs. The department is conducting this public awareness and enforcement program to educate and encourage members of the community to develop and maintain safe practices while driving, walking, and cycling throughout the City of Mt. Angel.

The Three (3) hour long operation will take place on 04/13/2026 at crosswalks on E. Church Street and N. Main Street, within the City of Mt. Angel, Oregon. During this operation, Officers from the Mt. Angel Police Department will be conducting enforcement at heavily traveled crosswalks. For this operation, a decoy pedestrian will cross the street while uniformed officers monitor the crosswalk for motorists who fail to yield the right-of-way, or who take unsafe and illegal actions including any other traffic violation. Drivers and pedestrians stopped during this safety operation will be issued warnings or citations.

Crosswalk enforcement actions are an effective way to communicate pedestrian right-of-way laws to both drivers and pedestrians. Police departments across the state take enforcement action in response to community requests and as a tool to educate the general public on the rules at marked and unmarked crossings and they are conducted at various times throughout the year.

The goal of Pedestrian Crosswalk Operations or PSE’s (Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operations) is to improve traffic safety for everyone in the community, while educating motorists and pedestrians alike. Drivers must yield the right-of-way and remain stopped for pedestrians until it is safe to proceed as outlined in ORS 811.028 (Failure to Stop and Remain Stopped for Pedestrian). We expect that voluntary compliance will be improved as a result of this operation.

As with any traffic violation, keep in mind that it is easy to avoid a ticket by simply following the law. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at the Mt. Angel Police Department (503-845-9294).

Thank you!

Tonight, at the Mt. Angel City Council Meeting it was a huge pleasure to promote and swear in George Lopez as a Sergeant. Sergeant Lopez has been an Acting in Capacity Sergeant for several years, and tonight was the big night, making the rank of Sergeant a permanent addition to the department.

Please help us celebrate Sergeant Lopez in his new role as a Sergeant for the Mt. Angel Police Department. When you see George around, please congratulate him for his accomplishment!

We had an awesome time at Shop with a Cop this year in Keizer, and it was a great time to pay it forward a bit with Believe in your Community!

MT. ANGEL POLICE - SEASON OF GIVING 2025

This year Mt. Angel Police chose Believe In Your Community as the recipient of their Kindness 911 Season of Giving donation. Believe in Your Community inspires people to build a better community. The Shop with a Cop program provides a Christmas shopping experience with a police officer for children of families who would not be able to afford it. Nearly 900 children were helped during the early part of December. The Community Outreach Program allows Law Enforcement officials to provide services and assistance to those in need in our community.

Search Believe In your Community to get more information or if you wish to support their mission.

Keep impacting your community one kind act at a time! If you would like to support the mission of Kindness 911/Season of Giving you can find a donations link on our website at www.Kindness911.org.
