Yesterday, I joined my colleagues Reps. Deasy, McAndrew, and Powell for the Community Listening Session at the One Roof Housing Resource Fair.

The listening session allowed us to hear directly from folks renting about their experiences finding and maintaining affordable housing. It’s important for us as elected officials to remember that stable housing is the foundation for so many other things - education, employment, food security, and building community.

One Roof is an amazing event that brings affordable housing providers and other social services, like utility and food assistance, legal help and eviction support, and more, literally under one roof to make it easier for folks to get the help they need.

Today we launched the Kids and Families Caucus!

I was honored to join Lt. Gov Austin Davis, caucus chairs Sen. Pisciottano and Reps. Abney and O’mara, along with Rep. Markosek, County Executive Innamorato and County Council President Naccarati-Chapkis at the Sampson Family YMCA in Plum to announce this new caucus.

Making Pennsylvania an even better place to raise a family covers so many topics - wages, education, housing, childcare, family leave and more. I’m proud to join my colleagues to work on policies that will improve the lives of kids and working families across the Commonwealth.

The Dormont Street & Music Festival was another great success! The weather held out and lots of fun was had on Potomac Ave. My staff and I were happy to see so many folks at our office table!

It was great to run into Judge Hilary Wheatley and, of course, to catch my favorite musical act of the day, Dormont Councilman Chris Rieger, on the B**r Garden stage! 🎉

I also had a great time selling Dormont Elementary PFO basket raffle tickets with Melissa, Amelia, Autumn, and Victoria! 💕

Please join me in welcoming Tom Duerr, our new District Office Director!

Tom is a 2017 graduate of Penn State’s Smeal College of Business, where he majored in Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation. He began his career in politics in 2016 and has worked for numerous local candidates and elected officials, including former State Senator Pam Iovino, former Congressman Conor Lamb, and Congressman Chris Deluzio. In 2019, Tom was elected to Allegheny County Council, becoming the youngest person ever to serve in Allegheny County government. During his tenure, he passed 10 pieces of legislation and served on the boards of the Allegheny County League of Municipalities and Allegheny County Elections. Most recently, Tom served in State Representative John Inglis’ office, where he helped develop legislation and established an unclaimed-property matching program that has returned nearly $650,000 to residents. A Bethel Park native with deep roots in the South Hills, Tom brings valuable experience in public service, constituent relations, and local government to our team. We’re excited to have him on board!

It's a big week for libraries and a proud moment for Mt. Lebanon!

Yesterday, I was so happy to welcome Mt. Lebanon Public Library Director Robyn Vittek and Susan Tracey, president of Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries and longtime leader of the Friends of Mt. Lebanon Public Library, to my Harrisburg office! They were in town for the Pennsylvania Library Association's annual conference, celebrating 125 years of supporting libraries across the Commonwealth. The conference also included a day of legislative advocacy at the Capitol.

Their visit was especially timely during Banned Books Week. In 2025, Mt. Lebanon Public Library made history as the first public library in Pennsylvania to declare itself a Book Sanctuary, reaffirming its commitment to intellectual freedom, opposing censorship, and protecting everyone's right to read.

Public libraries are so much more than places to borrow books. They're places where people of all ages can learn, explore new ideas, and connect with their communities. I'm proud to see such strong library leadership coming from our community, both locally and statewide. Thank you, Robyn and Susan, for your advocacy and for all you do to keep our libraries strong, welcoming, and accessible to everyone! 📚
