Today, we celebrate Louise Larkin as she retires after 10 years of dedicated service to the people of District 42. Louise has been so much more than a familiar face in our district office. She has been a trusted guide, a patient problem-solver, and a steady source of support for countless constituents. So many of our seniors relied on her careful guidance, knowing she would listen, take their concerns seriously and help them navigate whatever challenge brought them through our doors.

A longtime district resident herself, Louise cared deeply about this community and the people who call it home. She served our district for many years alongside former state Rep. Dan Miller, now Judge Miller, and when I took office, she helped me establish our new team, understand the rhythms of life as a state representative and continue providing the dedicated constituent services our neighbors deserve. Louise also poured herself into the Disability and Mental Health Summit year after year, helping create not just an important community event and resource, but a place where people felt welcomed, supported, and connected.

Louise cared deeply, worked tirelessly, and created community wherever she went. I am grateful for everything she has done for me, our office, and the residents of District 42. Please join me in thanking Louise for 10 remarkable years of service and wishing her every happiness in retirement. We will miss her and wish her the very best in this new chapter!

Yesterday, I hopped on my bike for PedalPGH and had a great time riding through the city with hundreds of other cyclists. I ran into so many friends and fellow riders along the way, including Congressman Chris Deluzio, who stopped for a quick selfie!

Bike Pittsburgh does terrific work advocating for safer streets for cyclists and pedestrians. Here in our district, groups like Move Lebo are working toward many of the same goals, and Mt. Lebanon and Dormont are currently partnering on an Active Transportation Plan.

Our communities have so many great places to bike and walk. Investing in safe, connected, multi-modal streets makes it easier for everyone to get where they need to go.

It was a great day for legislative door knocking in Castle Shannon!

YES, I know I wore the same outfit last time I did a door knocking video… it’s my Doug Funnie outfit! 🤣

We will continue to be out and about in your neighborhoods to let you know how our office can help!

From creating jobs to addressing food insecurity, urban agriculture is so important to our region. I attended Rep. Emily Kinkead's Seeds in the City event to learn more about what we as legislators can do to help producers continue to meet consumer demands.

This week, I had the chance to tour the IUPAT District Council 57 training facility and see firsthand how union apprentices prepare for careers in the skilled finishing trades—from commercial and industrial painting to drywall finishing, glazing, wall covering, and more. The IUPAT DC 57 is an affiliate of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. Their stated goal is to represent all of the individuals who wish to work at their trades in Western PA, and to help them achieve a career with good wages, benefits, safety, and dignity in the workplace. Thank you for hosting me -- I am proud to support all of the union workers and apprentices helping to build and beautify Western Pennsylvania!

Today, Pittsburgh Regional Transit released its Proposed Final Network to improve, expand, and create routes to better serve local riders.

Proposals for our district include a new bus route to provide seven-day local service across the South Hills (with connections to the West and South Busways, all three light rail lines, the Airport and Downtown!) as well as a route to restore historic connection from Mt. Lebanon to Oakland.

Anyone wanting to comment on the PRT plan or find more information can visit buslinerefresh.com. The public comment period ends Sept. 30. There will also be two public hearings on Aug. 25 and Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. at the Heinz 57 Center, 345 Sixth Ave, Floor 7. I encourage everyone to let their voice be heard and give PRT vital feedback during this process.
