⚠️BURN BAN⚠️

Per the Skagit County Fire Marshal's Office:

A modified burn ban for all residential and land-clearing fires in unincorporated Skagit County will go into effect on June 15, 2026, and continue until further notice. Skagit County will no longer issue permits for burn activities, and existing permits will be suspended.

More information on what is allowed during the burn ban can be found here: https://www.skagitcounty.net/Departments/Home/press/052126.htm

The Skagit County Fire Marshal's Office has decided to proactively have a “set date” to allow the public to know when to expect burn restrictions every year. In the past, we have not been able to provide much notice by waiting until the weather models, vegetation flammability, and fire potential have reached elevated risk levels.

The Skagit County Fire Marshal reviews the seasonal forecasts for drought, precipitation, relative humidity, and heat each year to assess our yearly fire risk. Skagit County is in a drought again this year and weather outlooks are predicting our region to be very dry and hot this summer. With these risks in mind, our fire chiefs and fire marshal believe it best to continue using a set date for the county burn ban.

International Firefighters Day is observed annually on May 4 to recognize and honor the dedication, courage, and sacrifices firefighters worldwide make to protect communities, lives, and property. We are coming up to a predicted stretch of some beautiful warm spring weather. The temperatures are expected to get high enough that tank tops and flip-flops might be the outfit of the day! Now is a great time to make sure that your water safety gear is also ready to go. Warm and sunny weather, especially in the spring and summer transition, can be deceiving when it comes to water flow rates and temperatures in our local waterways.
Please take a moment to ensure you are familiar with water safety tips, and current conditions of the waterways you are going to enjoy. Have fun, be safe!

What is the first step to get help in an emergency? 911!

The first responder in an emergency response is the dispatcher that takes the call and begins the process of getting help on the way.
In some critical situations they may also begin the lifesaving steps of CPR and other medical
interventions through telephonic instruction. You will likely never see them, but you will hear them as they gather critical information and walk you through what may be the most traumatic time of your life. Not only are they the critical link between the caller getting the help they need, but they are also the critical link supplying the information to the responding units and managing the response. In large responses, such as structure fires, they
could be managing upwards of 20 emergency apparatus at the same time.
They are truly masters of multitasking!

Skagit county is fortunate to have the highly capable dispatchers of Skagit 911 as our emergency dispatch team members.

We appreciate them every day, and we are proud to recognize them for National Public Safety Telecommunicators week!
