The Napa County Library remembers Dolly Parton and her extraordinary legacy as a champion for literacy.
A legendary singer, songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman, Dolly was also a passionate advocate for children and literacy. She made it her mission to ensure that every child could experience the joy of reading—regardless of their family’s circumstances.
In 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library began in Tennessee, where she grew up. Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly created a free book-gifting program that has since distributed more than 330 million books, including audio and braille editions, helping make reading accessible to children everywhere.
Dolly Parton’s legacy lives on through this program. Children ages 0-5 can receive free books delivered right to their doorstep thanks to a partnership between Napa County Office of Education and First 5 Napa County .
