Did you hear that helicopter today?

Today, organizations from not only the Highlands Area School District and St. Joes School District, but all over Allegheny County and beyond embarked on a journey to bring the #2026 Mock Crash to our district's Junior and Senior classes. The Mock Crash was formed to bring awareness to students ahead of their Prom Season to highlight the dangers of driving while impaired or distracted.

We are very grateful for the hard work that our Volunteer Fire Departments and local EMS agencies put in every day- every time you hear the whistles blow they respond to unknown calls and serve their communities however they can. Police Officers from Fawn Township, Tarentum Borough Police Department, Port Authority Police Department, and Harrison Township Police Department pulled together to help the event run smoothly. The Highlands Drama Club did a great job in making this come together.

Thank you to Terry's Towing and Gillette's Towing for providing the vehicles for today's crash.

Following the Mock Crash, Students from both Highlands School District and St. Joseph High School split into two groups and attended various activities to highlight the dangers of impaired and distracted driving. These activities included hands-on driving courses, individual field sobriety testing with intoxicated goggles, and a presentation section which included a panel of VERY experienced professionals in this field including Pamela Ondash of MADD, James Erb of Citizens Hose EMS, Kelly Naik of the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office, Officer David Antal of Tarentum Borough Police Department who has accident reconstruction certifications, and Officer Ryan Signorella of our very own department, who, by the way, recently completed a grueling three week course hosted by the PA DUI Association called "Drug Recognition Expert".

Thank you to Harrison Township resident and photographer Don Klinsky for photographing the event.

In addition to the educational benefits and experience for the students, events like these strengthen the relationships between all of the agencies and provide them with a rare opportunity to work on coordination, communication, and teamwork in a training environment.

It speaks volumes that all of these agencies were able to come together to achieve a common goal and we look forward to our next one! Check out the attached photos!

Please be advised that PennDOT will begin a federally funded infrastructure improvement project at the intersections of Springhill Road and Freeport Road starting on April 27.

This project will include the installation of new poles, upgraded traffic signals, enhanced pedestrian crosswalks, and updated signage. These improvements are intended to increase safety and improve traffic flow for both motorists and pedestrians.

This work will occur in addition to PennDOT’s previously announced paving project, which is expected to continue throughout most of the summer. Residents and commuters should anticipate periodic traffic delays, lane restrictions, and changing traffic patterns in the area during construction.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as these important upgrades are completed. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

If you have any questions, please contact the Harrison Township Office.

It is that time of year again- as thousands of graduating Seniors across the Country take part in a game known as "Senior Assassin".

We would like to alert our residents that the "Senior Assassin" game involving Highlands School District Seniors began yesterday and typically runs through April or May. Although this is not a school-sanctioned event, we are aware that numerous Seniors take part in the game.

We have responded to 911 calls in the past from witnesses reporting seeing persons with fi****ms, observing apparent abductions, trespassing violations, and/or perceived assaults.

We do not want to see anybody injured as a result of this game.

If you are involved in the game and you believe somebody called the police on you, cease your activity immediately and if confronted by an officer comply immediately with all of their commands. Officers don't know if they're responding to a real-life incident or a few kids playing a game.

🚓Do not Trespass on property where you do not have permission to be. This includes homes, businesses, or restricted areas.
🚓Do not engage in the game while operating a motor vehicle or engage in activity that will place the operator or occupants in danger.
🚓Do not risk injury to yourself or others.
🚓Do not utilize water pistols that look like real guns.

Always remember: Our officers are tasked with ensuring safety for our Community and that includes you! What may seem like a harmless game can easily be misinterpreted by others.

If you see suspicious activity in Harrison Township, please report it to us.
