Congratulations on your retirement, Madelyn Bishop! 📚❤️👏 A beautiful bouquet from May’s Floral from the NPL Foundation “Friends of the Library” and a marble bookends set in recognition of her next chapter.

Fun fact: Madelyn has been serving our community at NPL for 23.5 years! She holds the 2nd longest NPL employment record according to my research.

The record is held by Miss Dorothy Hill who served library patrons at NPL (Nevada City Library) for 29 years.

The fourth and final Lunch & Learn of 2026 at the Bushwhacker Museum will take place on Tuesday, September 1st, 12pm. Randy Arnold of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, will give a program about the historic Talbot fishing reels, which were manufactured in Nevada in the early 20th century by jeweler William H. Talbot. Lunch will be catered by the museum volunteers. The cost is $20/ person for the general public and $15.00 for VCHS members. Reservations can be made by calling the Bushwhacker Museum at 417-667-9602. Tickets may be purchased online in advance at https://bushwhacker.org/product-category/event-tickets/.

Dickerson Park Zoo presented “Observe & Preserve: Unearthing secret stories in hidden habitats.”
Children met live animal ambassadors and discovered secret homes they create and depend on to survive. Ms. Jamie shared practical ways to preserve the places that our animal friends call home.
