In Episode 2 of Literacies, Tulane Libraries’ four-part audio series exploring the skills we need to navigate modern life, Dr. Victoria Elmwood and Professor David Rodriguez discuss why information literacy matters far beyond the classroom.

For the first day of U.S. Media Literacy Week, we asked Tulane students to share their thoughts on access to information and why it matters.

Access means more than having an internet connection. It’s about being able to find reliable information, explore diverse perspectives, develop digital skills, and participate fully in our communities.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to seek information, learn, and have their voice heard.

🎬 Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 7th International Short Film Festival on October 8!

Presented by the Language Learning Center in collaboration with Tulane Libraries, this fall’s festival featured In Havanna, Stanbrook, Harbor, and Nation on Fire—films exploring movement, displacement, belonging, and the resilience of people navigating a changing world.

Through stories spanning countries, languages, and cultures, the festival celebrated the power of cinema to foster cross-cultural understanding and connect us through shared human experiences.

Thank you to our partners and the Tulane community for celebrating global storytelling with us!

📚 This October, join Tulane University Libraries in celebrating the right to read freely and think critically.

Banned Books Week 2026 is October 4–10, with this year’s theme: “Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read.”

The American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom documented 4,235 unique titles challenged in 2025, the second-highest number ever recorded. Of those titles, 40% represent the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people and people of color. ALA also documented 5,668 books banned from libraries in 2025 — the highest number of titles censored in a single year since American Library Association began tracking this data in 1990.

We were honored to welcome Her Majesty Queen Sofía to Tulane University campus for the opening of Spain, Spanish America, and the Atlantic World in an Age of Revolution at the Doris Z. Stone Latin American Library and Research Center on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Spanning the 1760s–1820s, the exhibition explores the revolutions and independence movements that reshaped Spain and Spanish America. Rare books, manuscripts, maps, newspapers and early constitutions from Tulane’s collections, including Tulane Special Collections and Tulane Law Library, illuminate a pivotal period of political change, sovereignty and nation-building across the Atlantic world.
