🎺 100 Years of RHO! 🎺

For a century, the Rho Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi has supported Tulane Bands through musicianship, leadership, service, and, of course, a deep love of music.

Join us for the opening reception of “100 Years of RHO,” an exhibit celebrating the chapter and band’s history through a collection of historical artifacts, stories, photographs, and memories.

The evening will bring together current band members, alumni, and friends of RHO for music, history, stories, drinks, and good company.

Today marks the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Ratified on August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment prohibited the federal government and states from denying citizens the right to vote on the basis of s*x, marking a major milestone in the long struggle for voting rights in the United States.

Although the 19th Amendment prohibited voting discrimination based on s*x, it did not ensure that all women could actually exercise their right to vote. Black women, Indigenous women, Asian American women, and other women of color continued to face poll taxes, literacy tests, intimidation, discriminatory laws, and other barriers. Women with disabilities also faced significant barriers to political participation. Subsequent legislation, including the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, expanded legal protections for voters.

Tulane University Libraries is proud to celebrate the publication of Radical Visions: New Perspectives on Special Collections Curatorship, edited by Jillian Cuellar, Director of Tulane University Special Collections, and Agnieszka Czeblakow, Head of Research Services & Curator of Rare Books.

Published by the Society of American Archivists, Radical Visions brings together archivists, librarians, and curators from across the profession to examine the evolving role of curatorship in archives and special collections. Through research, personal reflections, and practical case studies, the book explores how today's curators are redefining stewardship through collaboration, community engagement, accessibility, and shared authority.

As Cuellar notes, "Curatorial practice in archives and special collections is severely understudied, despite the significant impact it has on the historical record." This volume helps fill that gap while providing an essential resource for students, educators, librarians, archivists, and cultural heritage professionals.

We're especially excited that Jillian and Agnieszka will be discussing and signing the book at the Society of American Archivists Annual Meeting this week in New Orleans.

Congratulations to Jillian, Agnieszka, and all of the contributors on this significant achievement and important contribution to the field!

We're gonna need a bigger book cart...

This Shark Week, one brave Tulane Libraries employee discovers the real apex predator isn't lurking in the water, it's silently rolling through the stacks.

Inspired by Jaws, Peter Benchley's 1974 bestselling novel that launched one of cinema's most iconic thrillers. But here's the twist: later in life, Benchley became a passionate advocate for shark conservation. He even hosted the very first Shark Week in 1994 on the Discovery Channel and often said that if he wrote Jaws today, the shark would be the victim, not the villain. 🦈💙

So, while our rogue book cart may be guilty of a few jump scares... real sharks deserve our respect, not our fear.
