: Safety first! In April, we celebrated our safest drivers and bases at the first in-person Vision Zero Safety Honor Roll since the pandemic. The 500 drivers completed over 7.4M trips in roughly four years, avoiding serious crashes and traffic violations.

This year’s Safest Driver honoree, Patricia Ramirez, has been a TLC driver for 6 years, and has a spotless record from both TLC and the State DMV. In 2022, she completed 2,393 trips. Staten Island’s Matamoros Car Service is the Safest Base, with only one crash last year out of a fleet of 21 vehicles.

Commissioner David Do, Deputy Commissioner of our Uniformed Services Bureau Ira Goldapper and Associate Commissioner of our Prosecution unit Mohammed Akinlolu joined DM Philip Banks today to share more about how we help maintain public safety across New York City.

TLC isn’t best known as a Public Safety agency, but we have an impact — regulating over 170,000 licensees and 100,000 vehicles, making more than 20 million trips a month.

Each time you get into a TLC authorized cab, rideshare or a community car service vehicle, you’re entering a vehicle that has been inspected by the TLC, with a driver who’s been vetted by the TLC.

Why does that matter? It’s about safety.
