I was filled with mixed emotions today as I had the privilege of attending the funeral Mass for musician Willie Colón . He was you an icon in Puerto Rican culture and music. What a leyenda!

The Mass celebrated his life, the value of his soul, and his return to join our Creator. As the musical ensemble joined the lifting of his casket from the steps of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and into the hearst, the music - La Murga - was a tribute worthy of Willie. It echoed the spirit of the sounds he gave to all and especially to my island of Puerto Rico.

Through his trombone, compositions, Willie Colón helped shape the sound of salsa and carried Puerto Rican culture to the global stage, leaving a legacy that will inspire generations to come.

Credit to all those in the music industry who lift our spirits in the most difficult of times. Your music offers comfort, healing, and respite for the soul.

Rest in peace, Willie Colón. 🎶🇵🇷

Proud to represent R.A.I.N. TOTAL CARE today as I stood with Metro Community Health Centers Press Conference along with community leaders - Michele Quigley, MPA Evette Pagan-Maduro Judith Watson Joseph M Pancari Renee Hastick-Motes, MPA - to call for the restoration of $300 million in funding that supports essential healthcare services at these sites.

Community health centers are a lifeline for millions of people, especially older adults, individuals with disabilities, and underserved families.

Restoring this funding is critical to protecting access to care and advancing health equity in our communities.
