We welcomed the next generation of leaders and helpers during “Take Your Kids to Work Day”! Here at NJTPD, this day was about inspiring future public servants and sharing the many things we do to protect the public.

90 children had a busy day filled with tours hosted by different NJTPD units and supporting offices, Q&A time with Chief Trucillo, K9 demonstrations, hands on experiences with vehicles and equipment, and much more. Check out some photos from the day!

Today we remember New Jersey Transit Police Officer Brendan Burke.

Officer Burke joined our department on April 22, 2002. During his early years of service, Burke worked to protect the public in multiple NJTPD patrol districts. This includes his patrol assignments in District 2, District 3, and District 4. He later served as a field training officer and ensured our newest patrol officers were the absolute best that they could be.

In 2016, Burke was assigned to the Intelligence Section. Here, he assisted in the coordination of intelligence for our NJTPD counterterrorism, crime prevention, and suppression missions. Despite being behind the scenes in the Intelligence Section, Burke was honored with a unit citation award. He had assisted in reviewing approximately 10,800 hours of video footage to help track the movements of a terrorist. That terrorist was responsible for placing devices in the area of Elizabeth Train Station.

Before his passing in 2023, Officer Burke served in our Central Communications Center and answered your emergency calls. At our department, Burke will be remembered for his dedication, his constantly cheerful demeanor, and his professionalism. Rest in eternal peace Officer Burke. Although you are gone, you will never be forgotten. – NJTPD

New Jersey Transit Police to conduct emergency response drill at MetLife Stadium ahead of FIFA

The New Jersey Transit Police Department’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM), together with federal, state, county and local partners, will conduct a training exercise on Saturday, April 18, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford beginning at 7 a.m.
The drill, which will gauge responses to a simulated transportation incident, will take approximately three (3) hours to complete.

Expect to see an increased presence of police and emergency personnel in the area of MetLife Stadium. The drill will be contained to MetLife Stadium and the immediate vicinity and is not open to the public. There will be no impacts to NJ TRANSIT train or bus services.

The New Jersey Transit Police Department annually conducts multiple drills and training sessions simulating various transportation emergency scenarios throughout the statewide system to increase preparedness.
