Right place, right time, NJTPD

Being ready to help whenever and wherever the need arises is part of being a New Jersey Transit Police Officer. Sometimes this means responding to emergencies, in this case it meant stepping in to provide on-camera translation between our NJ TRANSIT CEO and a Telemundo news crew.

While working to protect the Hoboken Terminal rush hour commute, Officer Garabito was waved down to assist. On the busy concourse at the time, our NJ TRANSIT President and CEO Kris Kolluri, and a Telemundo news crew were in need of a Spanish speaking translator to bridge communication.

Officer Garabito stepped in to assist like NJTPD officers do hundreds of times every single day.

Should you have questions, need help or directions, New Jersey Transit Police Officers are here for you. Keeping watch, and ready to help.

On Monday, October 12th, the New Jersey Transit Police Honor Guard presented the colors at the Prudential Center during the NJ Devils vs Ottawa Senators game. The officers proudly represented our department, our state, and our nation.

Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Atlantic City, NJ: Lieutenant Joseph Sperlazza was invited to serve as the Keynote Speaker to open the New Jersey Public Safety Accreditation Coalition Annual Conference.

During his presentation, Lt. Sperlazza spoke about the importance of helping officers understand the importance of why a policy exists to help support the highest level of public service. Lt. Sperlazza also discussed his involvement in a comprehensive overhaul of the New Jersey Transit Police Department’s Use of Force Policy, including enhancements to our agency’s response, reporting, supervisory responsibilities, and meaningful review process.

Lt. Sperlazza also encouraged fellow law enforcement leaders to continually evaluate not only whether their agencies meet established standards, but how they can push beyond those standards to better prepare their personnel and serve their communities.

A Badge worn in Support, a visible sign of hope

You may have noticed New Jersey Transit Police Officers wearing special badges throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We hope these badges serve as a symbol of support for everyone, and every family affected by this disease.

This month, we honor loved ones lost, celebrate survivors, stand with those currently fighting breast cancer, and encourage early screening and detection to save lives.

Together, we wear these badges to raise awareness and to remind all affected that they are not alone. - NJTPD
