What an honor it is each year to support and host the Gold Star Sailing program at Coast Guard Station Castle Hill. It’s a privilege to spend time with these incredible kids.

The week begins Tuesday evening when our crew picks up the kids on our 45 RB-M from Sail Newport and takes them on a scenic boat ride around Newport Harbor before enjoying dinner together at the Newport Yacht Club.

We wrap up the week on Friday by welcoming everyone to the station for an evening of fun and camaraderie. A huge thank you to VFW Post 406 Newport, RI Newport, RI and O'Brien's Pub in Newport for providing a fantastic meal for everyone. The kids have the opportunity to spend time with our crew, play basketball, tour the station, and this year they were surprised with a visit from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod.

Thank you to everyone who helps make this special tradition possible. It is truly one of the highlights of our year, and we are grateful to play a small part in creating be lasting memories for these amazing kids and look forward to seeing them all next year!

What an honor it is each year to support and host the Gold Star Sailing program at Coast Guard Station Castle Hill. It’s a privilege to spend time with these incredible kids.

Outstanding work by the crew of Coast Guard Station Castle Hill!

Last night, our crew responded to a MAYDAY call from a 66-foot yacht taking on water approximately with four people onboard, eight nautical miles south of Sakonnet Light.

Launching immediately on the 45-foot Response Boat–Medium, the crew quickly arrived on scene, identified the source of the flooding, and dewatered the engine room. Once the flooding was reduced so the onboard bilge pumps could maintain the flooding, the crew safely established a tow and brought the yacht to a nearby haul-out facility.

Thanks to the crew’s rapid response, sound judgment, and exceptional teamwork, the vessel was safely brought to shore and a potentially dangerous situation was avoided.
