GLFS provides NE DHHS contracted Family Support, Agency Supported Foster Care Services, & Family Preservation serving families across Nebraska

GLFS provides contracted family skill building services to create safe and nurturing environments through supervised visitations and drug testing.. We train and support licensed foster homes, as well as kinship or relative and respite homes while children are placed in their care.

We’re excited to be in Lincoln today connecting with CASA volunteers, staff, board members, judges, attorneys, and child welfare professionals from across Nebraska!

Events like this are such a great opportunity to build relationships, share resources, and connect with the people who work alongside children and families throughout the child welfare system.

We’re building more than a team — we’re building confident, supported professionals. 💙

At Guardian Light Family Services, professional development doesn’t stop after orientation.

Today, our statewide team is coming together virtually for our monthly agency-wide training with Cheri Farris, Wellbeing Programs Coordinator with Panhandle Public Health District, who is presenting on WRAP.

Continuous learning is an important part of working at GLFS:

📚 40+ hours of new hire training
💻 Monthly agency-wide Zoom training
🤝 Biannual full-day, in-person training

Our employees work alongside children and families across Nebraska through family support, foster care, family preservation and reunification, supervised visitation, and other family services. We believe the people doing that work deserve opportunities to continually strengthen their skills, learn from experts, and grow in their careers.

Foster care is meaningful, but it isn’t always easy.

There can be trauma, big emotions, difficult days, appointments, changing plans, and moments when you may wonder whether you’re doing enough. It takes patience, flexibility, compassion, and a willingness to keep learning.

And it isn’t about “saving” a child.

It’s about supporting a family.

It’s providing safety and stability while parents work toward their goals. It’s caring deeply for a child while also rooting for their family to heal and, whenever safely possible, be together again.

We aren’t looking for perfect foster parents.

We’re looking for people willing to show up, stay steady through the hard days, celebrate the good ones, and become part of a family’s support system when they need it most.

The truth is… the journey was never just about one person.

Guardian Light Family Services may have started with one vision in 2016, but over the past 10 years, that vision has been shaped, strengthened, and carried forward by so many incredible people.

Employees. Leaders. Foster parents. Community partners. Trainers. Families. Friends of the mission. People who believed in what Guardian Light could become and helped bring it to life.

Every group photo holds a piece of the story. Every person who has walked alongside us has helped build something bigger than what started in North Platte 10 years ago.

One vision started it all.
But this mission has always been built together. 💙

Despite the rain, our Guardian Light team still showed up for communities across Nebraska! 💙

While National Night Out in Norfolk was canceled and the weather changed plans for several eastern Nebraska events, our supervisors, directors, and team members were still out connecting with families in Benson, Kearney, Beatrice, Sidney, and Ogallala.

The crowds and activities may have looked a little different because of the weather, but we are grateful for every conversation, connection, and opportunity to support the communities we serve.

Thank you to the event organizers, law enforcement agencies, first responders, community partners, and families who made the evening meaningful—rain or shine! ☔🚓

Guardian Light Family Services supervisors, directors, and team members will be out in communities across Nebraska on Tuesday, August 4, connecting with families, sharing resources, and joining in the fun!

💙 One vision started it all. Together, we built the mission.

At the center of this photo is our founder and CEO, Brandon Wengler, holding a quilt made up of pieces that reflect the people, memories, and mission of Guardian Light Family Services.

In July 2016, Brandon began Guardian Light with one vision: to create meaningful support for Nebraska families. Over the past 10 years, that vision has grown through the dedication, compassion, and hard work of an incredible team.

What started in North Platte with one employee and one program has grown into a statewide organization serving families across all 93 Nebraska counties.

While Brandon started the vision, it is the entire Guardian Light team that has helped bring the mission to life and carry it forward every day.

We’re all set up at the 2026 Nebraska Disability Pride Celebration! 🌈💚

Come celebrate 36 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act, connect with community organizations, and enjoy the festivities with us at Antelope Park in Lincoln.
