Town of Northport, Maine

Town of Northport, Maine Town of Northport, Maine Set apart from the hustle and bustle of surrounding towns lies the quiet, wooded community of Northport.

Rolling hills, picturesque ponds and green woods dominate the portion of the town inland from Route 1. Penobscot Bay embraces the coastal portion of the town. Lobstermen still work their traps from the town landing in Saturday Cove, while sailboats dominate in summer. Visit Temple Heights, a spiritualist camp active for more than 100 years. Roam the narrow streets of Bayside, where charming ginger

bread cottages surround village greens and look down to the natural splendor of Penobscot Bay. Northport offers a yacht club, nine-hole golf course, an auction house, and family owned businesses and restaurants. But for all the scenic beauty of land and sea, the real beauty of Northport however is found in its friendly and welcoming people. The Town of Northport is part of Waldo County, Maine. As of the 2010 census, there were 1520 people residing in Northport. The town has an area of 34.99 square miles, of which 23.78 square miles is land and 11.21 square miles is water.

At the Select Board meeting on Monday, two of our very special First Responders were recognized and awarded the Maine EMS Phoenix Award. Toupie Rooney and David Lindahl were recognized for being part of a team that were able to resuscitate a patient in cardiac arrest. More on this is below. Thank you to Toupie and Dave for all that you do for our citizens, this recognition is much deserved, and we are very lucky to have you.

The Phoenix Award for Maine EMS is presented to Maine EMS personnel who played a role in a an out-of-hospital resuscitation of a patient in cardiac arrest, achieving Return Of Spontaneous
Circulation (ROSC). The patient has to have been in cardiac arrest from a non-traumatic event and who then goes on to be discharged from the hospital with normal neurological function.
David Lindahl’s and Toupie Rooney’s awards are the result of having responded as Northport First Responders to a witnessed cardiac arrest of an elderly male on July 4, 2025 in the area of
Bayside and assisted in the patient’s care, resulting in achieving ROSC. The patient ultimately was discharged from the hospital after treatment with normal brain function. Details of this
incident are covered under patient confidentiality, so I am constrained to provide just the generalities for the sake of this description.
Toupie and Dave have downplayed their roles in this event, but were part of an overall team that was primarily under the direction of the Belfast Ambulance crew that responded to and
transported this patient. Since Belfast Ambulance is our contracted transporting service and had the highest EMS licensed people on scene, it is entirely correct to provide care as a team in
a cardiac arrest event in this manner. This is the essence of Maine emergency medicine where providers work as a team to save a life that otherwise might have been extinguished before it’s
time.
Toupie and Dave have been and continue to be people that I hold in the highest regard for their volunteerism and commitment to Northport.
