Summer is here, and we are heading straight for the water. Whether it’s the pool, a lake, or a river, these moments often come with alcohol in the mix. But here is something many people do not realize; alcohol is involved in up to 70 percent of water related deaths among teens and adults.

It can impair judgment and increase risk taking, making water activities more dangerous.

This summer, think before you drink and use it as a chance to talk with your family about your expectations and values around alcohol.

The YAS is a biennial, countywide online survey on the health behaviors of 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students. Now in its eleventh administration since 2005, the 2025 survey included nine school systems and more than 5,000 teen responses to 180+ questions.
