Weโ€™ve got a tiny visitor hanging around behind the Norton Shores Police Department today. ๐ŸฆŒ

This is a good reminder that during this time of year, it is completely normal for fawns to be left alone temporarily while their mother is nearby searching for food. In most cases, the best thing you can do is simply give them space and leave them alone โ€” mom will usually return soon.

There is generally no need for a police response. Thank you for helping us keep wildlife wild!

As National Police Week comes to a close, the Norton Shores Police Department would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who helps keep our community safe and strong each day.

To our Officers and professional staff โ€” thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving others. To our families โ€” thank you for the sacrifices, patience, and support that make this work possible.

We are also grateful for our fellow first responders, partner agencies, schools, local organizations, volunteers, city leadership, and the residents of Norton Shores. Public safety is a team effort, and we are fortunate to serve a community that consistently supports one another.

Each year during National Police Week, law enforcement officers and survivors from across the country participate in the Police Unity Tour โ€” a 300-mile bicycle ride from New Jersey to Washington, D.C.

The ride raises awareness and funds for the families of fallen officers and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, while honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This year, a local resident completed the ride in honor of Ofc. Jonathan Ginka. We are grateful for the continued support shown by our community and for those who help ensure Jonโ€™s memory lives on.

Learn more about the Police Unity Tour here:

The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers killed in the line of duty.

โ€œThe police are the public and the public are the police.โ€
โ€” Sir Robert Peel

One of the foundational principles of modern policing is the understanding that strong communities and effective policing go hand-in-hand. Positive relationships, mutual trust, and open communication between officers and the people they serve are essential to public safety.

During National Police Week, the Norton Shores Police Department would like to express our sincere gratitude to this community and our Officers for their mutual support, partnership, and trust. We are proud to serve alongside you.

As we continue recognizing National Police Week, we take time to remember the officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

So far this year, more than 35 law enforcement officers across the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice. Each loss is a reminder of the risks officers face and the dedication they bring to serving their communities.

To learn more about these officers and honor their service, visit the Officer Down Memorial Page:

The Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP) is dedicated to remembering all law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty.
