Therapeutic Thursday message from Priscilla, our Wellness Coordinator. Priscilla practices what she preaches!

Anxiety is our nervous system's way of trying to protect us. It is not our enemy, however, those of us who have experienced trauma often have a very hypervigilant nervous system. Our stress responses have difficulty deactivating. We may have difficulty feeling safe, even when we are safe, because we have not experienced safety in the past. This creates a cycle of chronic, toxic stress.

This cycle can be broken, through practice, but it can take a while. It is important to recognize that anxiety is not a permanent emotion, to remind ourselves of our safety, and to be aware of our thoughts that lead to anxiety (which are often cognitive distortions or inaccurate thoughts based on learned survival strategies).

Honoring our team.

National Crime Victims Rights Week, April 20-25, is an annual observance dedicated to advancing victims' rights, honoring survivors and advocates, and promoting support services.

Behind every service and program are individuals and teams working every day to support survivors, often while navigating complex challenges and barriers.

As part of this field-generated NCVRW, today is an opportunity to both recognize that impact and actively show appreciation.

We are grateful for and proud of this team of compassionate victim services professionals and volunteers, with countless years of experience and expertise.

Please take a moment to advocate for the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act, which serves as a major funding source for victim services agencies across the country, including the Dove Center.

๐Ÿšจ ACTION ALERT! ๐Ÿšจ More than 700 organizations โ€” including victim service providers, advocacy organizations, and justice system partners from across the country โ€” are calling on Senate leadership to act.

Take our Action Alert and join us: https://buff.ly/OQJe26z

The Crime Victims Fund is the primary source of funding for services that support survivors of domestic violence, s*xual assault, child abuse, trafficking, and other crimes. Yet today, the CVF is nearly depleted, putting critical, lifesaving services and victimsโ€™ lives at risk.

Communities are already feeling the impact. Programs have been forced to reduce services, lay off staff, and, in some cases, close their doors entirely. Without immediate action, more survivors will be left without the support they need to stay safe, heal, and rebuild their lives.

The Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act offers a bipartisan, commonsense solution to stabilize the CVF using non-taxpayer dollars, ensuring continuity of services while Congress works toward a long-term fix.

The House has acted, and now, 700 organizations are urging the Senate to do the same. Leader John Thune, Senator Chuck Schumer, Senator Chuck Grassley, and Senator Dick Durbin: pass the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act now. Survivors canโ€™t afford delays.

[Image description: Against a teal and purple ombre background, white text reads: โ€œTell the Senate: Pass the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act! The Crime Victims Fund is nearly depleted, putting critical, lifesaving services and victimsโ€™ lives at risk. The Senate must pass this bipartisan, common-sense solution now. Survivors canโ€™t wait.โ€]
