Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.

This Memorial Day, the Oklahoma City Fire Department stand in gratitude alongside the families, friends, and fellow service members carrying their legacy forward.

May we always remember that freedom comes at a cost — and today, we honor those who gave everything. 🇺🇸❤️

Proud to support Tony Morgan for OSFA 3rd Vice President. Tony has always been a strong advocate for firefighters, our members, and the communities we serve. We’re excited to see his leadership continue at the state level. 🔥

“Light the Night” was a tremendous success, and we are grateful to everyone who participated in helping honor our fallen firefighters.

Throughout downtown, many buildings were illuminated in red as part of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters campaign. Launched in 2017 to commemorate the Foundation’s 25th anniversary, this annual tribute takes place during National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Week and has grown into a nationwide tradition of remembrance.

We want to extend our sincere thanks to all the businesses, organizations, and community members who lit their buildings, homes, landscaping, and properties in red to commemorate this meaningful occasion.

Your participation helped create a powerful visual tribute in honor of the brave firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Thank you for standing with us in remembrance and support. ❤️🚒 📸 Kate Douglas

Tonight, Oklahoma City joins the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation for Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters ❤️

Landmarks across the city, including the Scissortail Bridge, will shine red in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This tribute represents the 137-year legacy of the Oklahoma City Fire Department and the firefighters we’ve lost in the line of duty. Their sacrifice continues to impact their families, our department, and the entire community.

We encourage everyone to take part, light your home red tonight and help us spread awareness.

Always remembered. Always honored. ❤️🔥

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost and forever changed by the tragedy in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995.

As members of Local 157, we carry a deep respect for the courage, sacrifice, and unity shown by first responders and our community in the face of unimaginable loss. That day did not define us by tragedy alone, it defined us by how we came together with the Oklahoma standard.

We honor the 168 lives taken too soon, the survivors who continue to inspire, and the families who carry their memories forward every single day.

As firefighters and union brothers and sisters, we stand committed to never forget, to serve with purpose, and to always be there when our community needs us most.

Just your local firefighters… and their newest recruit 🐾🔥

We are having a blast out at the Humane Society’s Poochella event!

Nothing better than supporting a great cause and spending the day with the community… even if we left wanting to take a few pups home with us. 🐶❤️

We are deeply heartbroken to hear about the loss of an Oklahoma Highway Patrol officer. These men and women put their lives on the line every day to protect and serve others, often without recognition. Today we pause to honor that sacrifice and remember a life given in service to others. Praying for their family, friends, and brothers and sisters in uniform during this difficult time.

It is with deep sorrow the Oklahoma Highway Patrol announces the line of duty death of Trooper Vernon Brake.

On April 8, 2026, at 11:27 a.m., a vehicle traveling southbound on I-35 lost control for an unknown reason and crossed the center cable barrier. The vehicle struck Trooper Brake, who was traveling in the northbound lanes just south of Hefner Road in Oklahoma City.

Trooper Brake was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other involved vehicle, along with a four-year-old passenger, were also pronounced deceased at the scene.

Trooper Brake was a graduate of the 56th OHP Academy in 2006 and has proudly served the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for nearly 20 years, with a significant amount of time assigned to Troop S (commercial motor vehicle enforcement). After his graduation from the academy, he also served in Oklahoma and Logan Counties.

Trooper Brake is survived by his wife and two children.

Our prayers and deepest sympathies are with his family as well as the family of the other driver involved.

OHP's Traffic Homicide Unit (THU) is conducting the investigation into the crash.

Our guys are headed home from the IAFF Strive for Excellence Conference, bringing back more than just a week away.

Our Local 157 members spent the week learning, connecting, and sharpening the skills that matter most, everything from behavioral health and leadership to collective bargaining, safety, communications, and protecting our members on and off the job.

But more than anything, they’re bringing back new ideas, stronger leadership, and a renewed commitment to take care of our own and serve our community at the highest level.

Proud of this group and the work they continue to put in. 🔥
