On 8-9-26 at 9:54PM, James D. Shadowens (59), of Olney, was arrested for DUI, Driving while License Revoked, Possession of Cannabis in Motor Vehicle & Improper Lane Usage following a traffic stop at Chestnut & Washington.

Olney Police Department participated in the Law Enforcement & First Responder Training at the Richland County High School.
Once again, We are thankful for the Richland County School District for allowing us the use of their facilities to conduct these trainings.

Patrol Officer - Entry Level
The Board of Fire & Police Commissioners is accepting applications for an eligibility list for the position of Patrol Officer.

Application packets are available at City Hall, 300 S. Whittle Ave., Olney, IL from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Mon.-Fri. Last date for submitting applications is August 14, 2026, with testing held August 22, 2026.

Once created, the eligibility list will be in effect for 2 years.
At the time of the last date for filing of application, individuals must not have attained 35 years of age, except as otherwise provided by Statute. At the time of appointment, individuals must have attained 21 years of age.
Starting base rate will be $65,291 per year and increases to $66,892 upon completion of law enforcement training.
Benefits include personal days, sick days, health & life insurance, police pension, annual wage increase, overtime for hours worked over 40 per week, overtime for working on holidays, etc.
