We saw the news, we know that the Omaha City Council allowed the Police Department to spend $66,000 on 40 pairs of “compliance shock gloves” to use in Omaha’s public schools.
We know that school boards, superintendents, and families were NOT notified about ANY OF THIS. We know that these gloves have been used on two students in the last year.
We also know that this was signed off by former Mayor Stothert on the day of her election loss.
What we don’t know is WHY. WHY was this done without a public hearing? WHY was this done without notifying our public education leaders? WHY are we embracing technology that ICE just spent $20 million on?
So we ask you to JOIN US at a press conference on Tuesday, August 18th at 1pm at 1815 Farnam St to call on the Omaha City Council to remove OPD spending from the consent agenda. The night before, some of us will be attending the OPS Board meeting to ask for clarification and to go on public record.
