This week members did water and rope training on how to rescue people from river without putting firefighters in the water while waiting on boat crews from neighboring departments. This consisted of equipment like rope gun to get rope across the river and rope rigging to get people out if river fast and safely.

The Ottawa Fire Department would like to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make the 152nd NOVFA Fire Convention such an incredible success! ❤️‍🔥

From all of the visiting fire departments, firefighters, families, volunteers, businesses, sponsors, vendors, and everyone who came out to support us — we truly couldn’t have done it without you!

It was an honor for the Ottawa Fire Department to host this year’s convention and continue the long-standing tradition of the Northwestern Ohio Volunteer Firemen’s Association. We are proud of the hard work, dedication, and brotherhood that went into making this year one to remember.

A special thank you goes out to all of our members and volunteers who put in countless hours before, during, and after the convention. Your time and dedication did not go unnoticed. 👨‍🚒❤️

We hope everyone had as much fun as we did and made some great memories along the way!

Also we apreciate everyone that had the opportunity to get into the 50/50 Raffle that raised over $24,000. This money will give us the opportunity to purchase needed equipment to better serve our community.

🚒 Firefighters Take Over the Ottawa Car-E-It Bar for Ben “Fish” Niese 🍻

Join us for an evening of great food, cold drinks, live music, and community as local firefighters take over bartending to support one of our own.

Our brother firefighter, Ben “Fish” Niese, has recently been diagnosed with leukemia. We’re coming together to help Ben and his family during his fight by raising money to ease the financial burden of treatment and recovery.

Join Us for National Night Out & Overdose Awareness and Recovery Celebration
The Ottawa Police Department and Pathways Counseling Center invite the community to attend a combined National Night Out and Overdose Awareness & Recovery Celebration on August 4, 2026, at the Ottawa Memorial Pool, 730 N. Locust Street, Ottawa, Ohio.

This family-friendly event will take place from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with free swimming available from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Attendees can enjoy:

Free swimming

Free food

Touch-A-Truck activities

Community resources and information

Opportunities to connect with local first responders, service organizations, and recovery advocates.

This event has become one of Ottawa's most successful community gatherings, bringing together hundreds of children, families, and residents each year. It provides a positive opportunity for community engagement, strengthens relationships between residents and local organizations, and promotes awareness, prevention, recovery, and support services.

Teamwork is not just within a fire department, it’s mutual aid and community support. Thanks to Glandorf and Leipsic fire departments for their assistance in this hot weather. Ottawa PD and Putnam Sheriffs controlled traffic, our Auxiliary and reserve members with glandorf auxiliary kept the rehab station ready with drinks, Putnam EMS was ready if we needed them, and our local businesses, Car E It and Casey’s, supplied food after. It truly is a community effort.
