Labor Day weekend is often a time many celebrate. The Overbrook Police Department reminds the public to celebrate responsibly and drive sober.

The Overbrook Police Department joins law enforcement across the country to remind drivers to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. You can expect to see increased law enforcement presence on local roads during the nationwide safety campaign, which runs from August 23- September 7.

Drunk driving is illegal and deadly. According to the NHTSA, even a small amount of alcohol can affect one’s ability to drive. Drivers need to be responsible. If you drink and drive, you could get arrested or worse be involved in a traffic crash involving injury or death.

Drivers should plan ahead this Labor Day weekend:

🚔 If you intend to drink, don’t drive
🚔 Designate a sober driver
🚔 Call a rideshare or taxi
🚔 If your friend is going to drive, take away the keys and provide a sober way home
🚔 If anyone spots a drunk driver, call local law enforcement

Tomorrow (Wednesday, August 19th), the 20 mph speed limit will begin again on 8th St. between Elm St. and Maple St. in front of the Overbrook Attendance Center from 7:00 AM-8:00 AM and 3:00 PM-4:00 PM Monday-Friday during the school year.

This Saturday (August 15th), the Overbrook Maintenance Department will block off Maple St. between Santa Fe Trail and Market St. at 4:00 PM to prepare for the Overbrook Osage County Fair parade. Street parking will be prohibited until after the parade. Please remove all vehicles prior to this time. Overbrook PD will close Maple St. at 6th St. and Cedar St. at 6th St. at 6:00 PM until after the parade. Please allow additional travel time for alternate routes. At the City Council meeting this evening, Officer Garrett Brustowicz and Officer Jacob Burrell were presented department commendation letters and meritorious conduct medals. The officers received the awards for safely resolving a suicidal subject incident in May.
