The SafeCenter Empower. Advocate. Educate. Prevent. SafeCenter now serves men and women who have experience intimate partner domestic violence or sexual assault.

SafeCenter was formed in 1983, but became an official non profit organization in 1984, when Janet Holden realized the need for an agency to help victims of intimate partner domestic violence. With help of concerned citizens and many volunteers, SafeCenter was the first safe place for battered women and their children. Philosophy Statement
SafeCenter advocates the right for every person, adult or child, to live in a non-violent environment where individuality and equality are recognized and respected. We seek to maintain a supportive atmosphere wherein victims are able to obtain information, explore options and ultimately make their own choices. We understand that the scope of domestic and sexual violence transcends our local community. Work against societal violence must be achieved through networking at the local, state and national levels. Heightened awareness can lead to changes in society’s attitudes about victims and the conditions which lead to violence. Domestic and sexual violence are crimes that not only affect the victims and their families but society as a whole. Interventions must support survivors and hold abusers accountable through coordinated community responses. Vision:
End domestic violence and sexual assault. SafeCenter services include:

24-Hour Crisis Line (877) 952-7283
Emergency Shelter
Information and Referrals
Individual Counseling & Advocacy
Basic Needs (Food & Clothing)
Housing Programs & Assistance

What does hope look like?

Sometimes, it looks like a phone call.
Sometimes, it looks like someone finally saying, “I need help.”
Sometimes, it looks like a survivor realizing they have choices.
Sometimes, it looks like a child learning that love should never hurt.
Sometimes, it looks like a person taking their first step toward a safer future.

And sometimes, hope looks like you …
The person who gives.
The person who shares.
The person who volunteers.
The person who learns.
The person who tells a friend about SafeCenter.
The person who says, “This matters to me, and I want to be part of changing it.”

Our community's response can change what is possible for someone who has experienced violence.
Your support helps create a community where survivors can find compassion instead of judgment, support instead of isolation, and possibilities instead of dead ends.

We are so close to the end of this campaign—but the need for hope doesn't end when the campaign does.

Would you help us finish strong?
💜 Make a gift.
💜 Invite someone else to give.
💜 Help us spread the word about why this work matters.

Every act of support says:
You matter.
Your safety matters.
Your healing matters.
Your future matters.

And together, we can help make sure survivors hear those messages loud and clear.

11 weeks down.
One week to go.
So much hope still ahead.

We’re on Day 2 of our telethon, and we want to take a moment to remind everyone why this mission is so important. 💜

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is about more than raising awareness — it’s about standing beside survivors, offering hope, and helping create a future where everyone feels safe, supported, and valued.

Every donation matters. No amount is too small. Every dollar can help make a difference, whether it helps provide resources, supportive services, safety, or hope to someone who may feel like they have nowhere to turn.

Domestic violence affects individuals, families, and communities, and behind every statistic is a real person whose story matters. Your generosity helps remind survivors that they are not alone and that there are people who care.

If you’ve already donated, THANK YOU! If you haven’t had the chance yet, there is still time to be part of this mission. Whether you donate, share this post, or help spread the word, you are making a difference. 💜

Let’s make Day 2 count! Every dollar, every share, and every act of kindness brings us one step closer to a world free from domestic and sexual violence.

10/19/2026

When someone experiences domestic or sexual violence, it can feel like the story has been rewritten for them.

Fear can become part of everyday life.
Trust can become complicated.
The future can feel impossible to imagine.

But what happened to someone is not the whole story of who they are.

There can be a day when they laugh again without forcing it.
A day when they feel safe in their own home.
A day when they make a decision simply because they want to.
A day when they realize they are allowed to dream again.

A new home.
A new beginning.
A healthy relationship.
A peaceful morning.
A life filled with things that have nothing to do with surviving.

Healing can make room for a future.

And every time we listen without judgment, believe without question, offer support without conditions, and remind survivors of their choices and their worth, we help make that future a little easier to see.

That is what hope does.
Hope doesn't erase the past.
It reminds us that the past does not get to decide everything that comes next.

Help us make room for that future.
Because there is more to a survivor's story than what happened to them.
There is a future.
There is possibility.
There is hope.

This week we are asking for donations of cleaning supplies.

We work diligently to provide a clean space for every client who enters our shelter and/or walks into our office. We RELY on donations in order to have the supplies that we need.

It can be as simple as, when you run out to the store to get paper towel or laundry detergent, grab an extra one and drop it off at the SafeCenter. Or you can add a few items to your Amazon cart and deliver them right to our office.

Our goal for this week is to check off every item on our list! We appreciate your support 💜🩵.

SafeCenter's address is 1300 N. Hickory St., Owosso, Mi, 48867.
