American Legion Post 108: Serving Veterans, Strengthening Community

For more than a century, the American Legion has dedicated itself to serving those who served our country. At American Legion Post 108 in Oxford, that mission is alive and well.

Under Commander Fred Censullo's leadership, the post has become a vital resource for local veterans, helping them access benefits, navigate claims, find support services, and stay connected to their community.

One of the post's most impactful programs is the monthly visit from Veteran Service Officer Lisa Misenko. Veterans can meet one-on-one with Misenko, a highly respected advocate who helps them navigate the often-complex process of obtaining the benefits they earned through their service. By bringing these services directly to Oxford, Post 108 makes assistance more accessible, especially for older veterans who may struggle to travel long distances.

The post's commitment extends far beyond paperwork. Members regularly assist veterans with transportation, grocery shopping, medical appointments, housing challenges, and other everyday needs. Their philosophy is simple: if a veteran needs help, they will do everything they can to provide it.

Looking toward the future, Post 108 is also building connections with the next generation of veterans. Through a partnership with Oakland University's Veterans Support Services, the post helps student veterans access benefits, educational resources, employment opportunities, and community support. The initiative creates a pathway for younger veterans to engage with the American Legion while continuing the organization's tradition of service.

The post is also home to Oakland County's largest and most comprehensive military museum. Guided tours are available by appointment and provide visitors a unique opportunity to explore military history through an extensive collection of artifacts and exhibits.

While serving veterans remains the primary mission, Post 108 is also a gathering place for the broader community. The facility hosts events throughout the year and offers a welcoming space for residents to connect, learn, and celebrate.

Supporting these efforts requires both volunteers and financial resources. The post's annual Poppy Days campaign remains its largest fundraiser dedicated to veteran assistance programs. Community members can also support the organization through its popular Friday Fish Fry, participation in the Queen of Hearts fundraiser, hall rentals, and other activities throughout the year. Funds raised help maintain the facility, support programs, and ensure the post can continue responding to veterans' needs.

From helping veterans secure long-overdue benefits to supporting families, preserving military history, and fostering community connections, American Legion Post 108 continues to make a meaningful difference in Oxford.

American Legion Post 108 is located at 130 E. Drahner Road in Oxford. The post welcomes veterans, families, and community members who want to learn more about its programs, events, and mission. For more information, visit americanlegionoxford108.org.
