Hello all!

It has been asked about refunds of passes during our current Aquatic Center closure. We do not intend to extend any refunds or credits for Community Center memberships, as your memberships encompass use of the entire community center, not just the aquatic center. Remember, the gymnasium side is still open and available with many fitness and family use options.

Per our Passholder Agreement, page 3, paragraph 8:

Non Participation; Unavailability of Facilities. Pass holders understand and accept that the amount and extent to which he/she uses the Community Center facilities, equipment and programs is his/her responsibility. Failure to use the facilities, equipment and programs does not constitute grounds for a refund or cancellation. Further, pass holders understand and accept that the Community Center, or certain areas, equipment, facilities and programs within the Community Center, may be unavailable at any particular time or day due to mechanical breakdown, private rentals, scheduled holidays, Borough events, Petersburg School District use, repairs, routine maintenance, fire, acts of God, unexpected lack of
staffing or other reasons. The facility may be closed for holidays, including but not limited to New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Seward’s Day, Little Norway Festival,
Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, Labor Day, Alaska Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, half day Christmas Eve only, and Christmas. Additionally, the Community Center closes for a period of two weeks annually for scheduled maintenance. Pass holders should contact the Community Center in advance to ascertain the present availability of the facility or equipment.

If you have not already, now is a great time to update your Passholder Agreement for our files. We understand that the use of other facility areas may not be the ideal use for you, but we do our absolute best to provide all that we can and do provide to sustain a variety of options for indoor recreation.

Please contact Stephanie Payne at [email protected] with any questions.

Aquatic Center UPDATE 8.3.26
Concrete saw, jackhammering, and CutQuick saws are the familiar sounds around the Aquatic Center as the construction crew keep plugging away!

With the family and womens locker room cut and excavated (lots of tunneling!), the plumbers are in there replacing the damaged piping and hangers.

The mens locker room is now the center of attention for cutting the floor open and getting the concrete broken up and out. While this room will also see the same broken pipes and hangers, we are in an area with a LOT of electrical conduits, which unfortunately runs in the same areas that need to be excavated. Danger, Will Robinson!! Mattingly Electric teams have been monitoring the project closely. Having investigated the wiring configuration, they are helping us to navigate the challenges involved with this section.

We understand the challenges and inconveniences of this project for our many community swimmers, school, and swim club. We are working closely with them to counter any delays to the best of our ability.

And while we were hoping to be able to fill the pools a little sooner than now, we knew there were a lot of challenges in our path, and we would just have to be as patient as possible. We also reminded that we would reopen as soon as we could but did not have a set date.

I am also working with our Fire Marshal in regards to safety requirements in terms of safe emergency exiting and evacuations once we do get to reopen while the work continues in the locker rooms. More information about that is forthcoming.

Again, thank you for your continued patience and support as we get this much needed repair taken care of.

Congratulations to all of the participants for our first ever Trekkin' through the Tongass gravel bike race. Tom Walsh was our winner, and Brian Smith and Michael Truex placed 2nd and 3rd respectively with an exciting sprint to the finish line. Matt Wintersteen and Craig Evens were not far behind! The Truex and Tocholke families combined for a relay and Randell, Christina, Courtney, Feron and Jayden sure impressed!

A huge thanks to all of the volunteers who helped to make this event happen, including P-W insurance and Sue Erickson, Joe Boggs with the USFS, Aaron Hankins, Desi Burrell, Rachel Bateman and Jena Roetzer with EMS/PVFD, Pat Blair and Wheelhouse Bikes, the DOT, Scott May, Don Holmes, John Litsheim, and of course parks and rec staff for their dedication and help.

To all the participants, the water bottles and shirts are in!

Thank you, KFSK!

Thank you, KFSK!

The aquatic center at Petersburg’s community center has been closed since May for repairs to the building’s sewer line. Community members have been eager to return to the pool. But, as the construction continues, it’s still not safe for swimmers to return just yet.

Check out this great opportunity! Hosting event in our Activity Room!
