🏠 🪟 🧱 We’re hiring a Preservation Technician!

The Preservation Technician role executes on-site and shop labor for the preservation team, including carpentry and masonry work on historic structures. This position requires competency in hands-on preservation trades work, good problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and the ability to perform quality handwork efficiently.
Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

We’re excited to share that we’ve received a Two For The Trails grant from our friends at Athletic Brewing Company! Through this program, Athletic Brewing contributes up to $2 million annually to help protect and restore trails and outdoor spaces around the world. With their support, we're continuing to care for the Trolley Trail while also making it easier to find and navigate. New wayfinding signs have been installed at two access points — the Car Barn and Ford Road — and the grant funding also supports continued trail maintenance. Together, these improvements are helping more people discover and enjoy this historic route through West Fairmount Park.

Have you ever noticed the Sedgeley Porter’s House on the north end of Lemon Hill? Designed by Benjamin Latrobe, the building is one of the earliest examples of Gothic Revival architecture remaining in the United States.

Fairmount Park Conservancy’s preservation experts recently restored a key piece of this historic structure as part of our commitment to honoring and preserving the history and artistry found in Philadelphia’s public spaces.

Cobbs Creek deserves spaces that reflect the strength and legacy of our community. 💙🌳

It was a joy to see the transformation of the NEW Johnny Sample Recreation Center. This $15 million renovation is an investment in the children, families, and neighbors who call Cobbs Creek home.

I’m proud to have helped bring nearly $1 million in state funding to this project alongside Senator Anthony Hardy Williams , and grateful to retired Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell , Councilmember Jamie Gauthier , and Madam Mayor Cherelle L. Parker who worked together to make it happen.

This is what investing in our communities looks like. When we deliver, our neighborhoods thrive.

The Johnny Sample Recreation Center is a community landmark that has served Cobbs Creek for generations, and we’re proud to celebrate the next chapter of that legacy!

Earlier this week, Fairmount Park Conservancy and Rebuild Philadelphia joined Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, Rep. Joanna McClinton, Anthony Hardy Williams, Councilmember Jamie Gauthier, community leaders, and Cobbs Creek families to officially cut the ribbon on the renovated Johnny Sample Recreation Center.

As Project User, the Conservancy led community engagement, design, and construction for this $15 million project, delivering a more accessible recreation center, upgraded indoor spaces, improved outdoor landscapes, and stronger connections to Cobbs Creek Park.

Special thanks to Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, SITIO architecture + urbanism, Let's Go Outdoors, Tiny WPA, Knight Foundation who helped make this milestone possible.

We are excited for this community space to continue serving Cobbs Creek families for generations to come!

What a great ribbon cutting yesterday at Johnny Sample (Cobbs Creek) Recreation Center!

In addition to Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and other elected and local leaders, we were joined by the Sample family who shared their connection with the Cobbs Creek community and what the $15 million upgraded facility will mean for the generations to come.

A big shout out to Councilmember Jamie Gauthier, Rep. Joanna McClinton, Anthony Hardy Williams Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy, Creative Philadelphia, and Tiny WPA for all of their work and advocacy on this project.

But most importantly, this project would not have happened without the efforts and passion of the Cobbs Creek community.
