The Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (ACDHH) partners with public & private sectors to ensure access & equity for Deaf, Hard of Hearing & DeafBlind communities. The purpose of the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (ACDHH) is to ensure, in partnership with the public and private sector, accessibility for the deaf and hard of hearing to improve their qual

ity of life. The Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing provides the following services to the citizens of Arizona:

Telecommunications Relay Service
ACDHH administers a statewide 24-hour telephone relay service. To place a call through the Arizona Relay Service, call 7-1-1

Telecommunications Equipment Distribution Program
ACDHH provides telephone equipment for qualified residents who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Speech Impaired, or Deaf-Blind. American Sign Language Interpreter Licensure
The law establishing licensure; A.R.S. 36-1946, was passed by the Arizona State Legislature in 2000. It is designed to create a statewide standard for sign language interpreters. There are more than 400 licensed professionals in the state of Arizona. To view Licensure rules click here rules start at R9-26-501. Empowerment
By informing Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals about their rights and the laws and programs available to support those rights, they can become empowered as self-advocates. Advocates are available to act on behalf of consumers as needed. Community Development
ACDHH works closely with community leaders to determine the resources available, and those that need to be expanded or created to better serve Deaf and Hard of Hearing citizens in each region. Collaborating with Heard Museum!

You're invited to attend this year's Together at the Heard program on Aug. 15, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Location: Heard Museum - 2301 N. Central Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85004, USA

Enjoy a presentation from AZ Husky Rescue and a dog meet-and-greet, a guided tour of “Wisdom from the Future,” and art activities, all with ASL interpretation and CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) provided.

All ages are welcome! Come celebrate Indigenous culture and accessibility with us.

Docent-led tour of “Wisdom from the Future” with ASL interpretation

Choose your own adventure: Explore “Molly of Denali: An Alaskan Adventure,” take a self-guided visit through “HOME: Native People in the Southwest” using our ASL video tour, or create art in the Monte Vista Room.

Welcome Zaida Piecoro to our team as our new Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy! She will lead our policy efforts serving DHHDB communities throughout Arizona and engaging with government officials and stakeholders to advance our mission and priorities. Zaida comes to us most recently from the Governor's Office as a Health Policy Advisor.

Zaida shared, "I am truly privileged to work with such a passionate, supportive team, and I look forward to getting to know all the amazing communities ACDHH partners with throughout Arizona!"
