Celebrating Our Scholars’ Internship Experiences 🎉

On August 11, we gathered at The Grandview Saloon for the Crossroads Internship Luncheon to celebrate our scholars and recognize the growth, accomplishments and experiences they gained through their internships.

Through these opportunities, our scholars stepped into professional environments, gained hands-on experience, developed valuable workplace skills and explored possibilities for their futures. From science and technology to the trades, media, law and more, each experience offered an opportunity to learn, grow and build confidence.

We are incredibly proud of our scholars and the commitment they brought to their internships. We are also deeply grateful to the professionals and organizations who opened their doors, shared their knowledge and invested in our scholars’ professional growth. Your time, guidance and support helped make these experiences possible.

To our scholars: congratulations on this accomplishment! We hope you carry the skills, confidence and connections you gained through your internships with you as you take your next steps.

We’re proud to celebrate you and all that lies ahead! 💙

🎓 Crossroads Senior Year Kickoff 2026: Starting Strong 🎓

On Thursday, August 6, Crossroads scholars and families gathered at the Calland Center for Senior Year Kickoff 2026 — an annual experience designed to help our 38 senior scholars begin their final year of high school with preparation, confidence, and support.

Throughout the day, scholars and families participated in conversations and workshops focused on navigating the college journey, including financial aid and FAFSA guidance, admissions, college planning, and application preparation.

Fabian Cotton, Admissions Counselor at Penn State University, led an admissions presentation and Q&A, giving scholars the opportunity to hear directly from a college admissions professional and ask questions about the college process.

The Senior Year Kickoff College Fair also gave scholars the chance to connect with college and university representatives, explore their options, and learn more about opportunities after graduation.

A special thank you to the college and university representatives who joined us and invested in our scholars:

This summer, 37 Crossroads junior scholars participated in SPICE (Scholars Participating in Career Exploration), a program that helps scholars explore their interests, discover new opportunities, and connect their goals to future pathways.

Through SPICE, Crossroads scholars gain meaningful exposure to college, career, and life-after-high-school opportunities through hands-on experiences with colleges, universities, and community organizations. Scholars explore fields including healthcare, technology, aviation, journalism, entrepreneurship, skilled trades, public service, design, and more while building confidence, communication skills, and a stronger understanding of the possibilities ahead.

On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, scholars celebrated their SPICE experiences at the SPICE Showcase, sharing what they learned with families, staff, and the Crossroads community. Through their presentations, scholars reflected on their summer experiences, the skills they developed, and the ways these opportunities helped them grow.

We are grateful to the colleges, universities, and community partners who invest their time, expertise, and resources to create meaningful opportunities for Crossroads scholars.

SPICE partners include:

Carlow University

On July 29, our Rising Sophomore Scholars took on the High Ropes Course at , challenging themselves to step outside their comfort zones and embrace new experiences.

Throughout the afternoon, Scholars built trust, strengthened communication, encouraged one another, and demonstrated leadership while navigating the course’s physical and mental challenges. Each obstacle was an opportunity to grow in confidence, resilience, and teamwork.

Experiences like these are an important part of the Crossroads Foundation journey, helping Scholars develop the skills and confidence they need for success in high school and beyond.

A special thank you to Camp Guyasuta for providing an unforgettable experience and an incredible environment for growth, learning, and adventure.

We are proud of every Scholar who took on the challenge and showed what it means to lead with courage.

Crossroads Foundation’s annual Saint Vincent College Week took place June 21–24, 2026, bringing together 36 rising sophomores for a four-day residential college experience at Saint Vincent College.

Throughout the week, scholars lived on campus and engaged in programming designed to introduce them to college academics, campus life, and the skills needed for success beyond high school. Experiences included interactive coursework, campus exploration, and structured reflection activities that supported both academic and personal growth.

Across the four days, scholars participated in community-building experiences, group activities, and guided reflection, all aimed at strengthening their readiness for future post-secondary pathways. The week concluded with student presentations and a closing brunch banquet celebrating their work, growth, and engagement.

Saint Vincent College Week has been a meaningful Crossroads tradition for more than 30 years, providing rising sophomores with early exposure to college environments and supporting long-term academic and career exploration.

We are proud of all participating scholars and grateful for the continued support that makes opportunities like this possible.

In the final session of Professional Mentoring on May 5, students and mentors alike participated in a Brick Club LEGO Build facilitated by Adam Zahren. 🧱
The session also included a leadership discussion component where scholars engaged in small-group conversations on leadership and mentorship. Students had to defend polarizing topics, brainstorm ideas, and present their arguments as a group, strengthening communication and critical thinking skills.
Following this discussion, participants worked in teams to assemble LEGO sets. Taking on and trying out different roles, the teams worked together and communicated effectively in order to create successful builds.
The Professional Mentoring program connects students with mentors who support their academic, personal, and leadership development throughout the school year.
This interactive session provided a fun and engaging way to strengthen collaboration, communication, and leadership skills while celebrating the conclusion of the program year.

On May 12, Crossroads scholars wrapped up the year in our Peer Mentoring program with a collaborative session facilitated by DrumNexus ! 🥁
Freshmen mentees and upperclassmen LEAD Scholars came together for a hands-on, interactive experience focused on connection, teamwork, and community-building. With more than 40 students participating, the session created a shared space for collaboration, creativity, and celebration of the year’s mentoring relationships.
Our students worked together to create beautiful music in a drum circle. They were able to use drums, maracas, and other playful percussion instruments to energize the atmosphere. The music in the air could really be felt, creating a powerful sense of community and shared experience.
The Peer to Peer Mentoring program pairs freshmen scholars with upperclassmen LEAD Scholars to foster encouragement, support, and leadership development throughout the high school experience.
Thank you to DrumNexus for partnering with us to make this final session such a meaningful experience for our scholars! 💙
