The 10th Annual Garbage Olympics are coming Saturday, September 19 — and South Side Flats is ready to compete! 💪

Join your neighbors and Duquesne University students for a city-wide cleanup as Pittsburgh neighborhoods go head-to-head to see who can pick up the most trash.

🎒📚 It’s that time — back to school!

SSCC was so happy to present Melissa Ott, 1st Grade teacher at Pittsburgh Phillips K-5, with backpacks and school supplies donated by members of our South Side community!

A huge thank you to everyone who donated online or stopped by our collection site at South Side Market. 💙

We’re also proud to share that SSCC donated $2,500 to Falcon Familia for 2026 school supplies. Falcon Familia is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the students, families and staff of Pittsburgh Phillips K-5.

Special thanks to Katelyn Sitar, Chair of SSCC’s Community Engagement Committee, Gianna Donati, and the South Side Market team for helping make this drive a success!

Every summer, the flower baskets along East Carson Street help make our business district brighter, more welcoming, and more beautiful for everyone.

This year, we’re hoping to raise support for 35 flower baskets at $415 each to bring the 2026 East Carson Street Beautification Project to life. Every donation—large or small—helps.

🌱🍅 A fun way to wrap up Ormsby Summer Camp!

The Ormsby Summer Camp kids celebrated their last week of camp by making fresh salsa using vegetables they helped grow in the garden! 🌽🫑🍅

Throughout the summer, campers spent time each week with dedicated South Side Community Council volunteers learning how to plant, grow, harvest, and enjoy fresh vegetables from the garden. It was a fun, hands-on experience that taught valuable gardening and healthy eating skills.

The Ormsby Children’s Community Garden is a collaborative effort between City Parks, South Side Kids, and the South Side Community Council, and it continues to grow thanks to the support of our amazing volunteers.
