We are committed to providing shelter, food, and necessities to those in the Pittsburgh community.

At Northside Common Ministries we are committed to building that bridges that connect our neighbors in need to an improved quality of life while tearing down the walls that keep the hungry and homeless from success. An affiliate unit of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, NCM is a non-sectarian, non-profit, community-based organization established in 1982 by a collaboration of 30 local churches

to meet the increasing needs of the homeless population. Our work is supported and facilitated by hundreds of volunteers including members of some 60 church congregations who provide evening meals for the shelter residents throughout the year.

Thank you to First Commonwealth Bank for serving as the lead sponsor of Goodwill's Welcome Home Basket Initiative!

Each year, we help approximately 100 individuals and families move toward stability through our housing programs. Through the Welcome Home Basket Initiative, participants receive cookware, dishes, cleaning supplies, and other household essentials to help make their new space feel like home.

We're grateful to First Commonwealth Bank for helping our neighbors start their next chapter with dignity, comfort, and stability!

After being displaced from his home, Antonio came to Northside Common Ministries to learn about what resources are available to him.

Since finding NCM, Antonio has maintained his sobriety, avoided returning to the justice system, and found stable employment. With a routine and steady income from his job, Antonio is now focused on finding a safe, permanent home. He also hopes to work at Northside Common Ministries one day, helping others as he was helped.

Reflecting on his journey with NCM, Antonio notes, "The staff is very kind and understanding about what I go through and who I am, that I'm trying to make a change and putting in effort. In times of struggle, it feels good to know that there are beautiful people in the world to help and support people who are in need."

The team at Northside Common Ministries will continue supporting Antonio as he works toward his goals. Congratulations and cheers to your bright future, Antonio!

Meet Donald!

Donald came to Northside Common Ministries this past April seeking support with finding housing stability. With encouragement from our team, he quickly realized that mental health plays a crucial role in how you navigate obstacles.

Donald's dedication and NCM's assistance helped him remain focused on his goals. "I can't thank the staff enough for guiding me and preventing me from falling off my path forward," he remarks. This summer, Donald found stable housing, allowing him to leave NCM's shelter and enjoy his own space!

Now that he has a place to call home, Donald intends to earn a degree in social work, hoping to advocate and support individuals living with disabilities. Congratulations and best of luck with your next goal, Donald!

Looking for a way to give back?
Northside Common Ministries, a program of Goodwill, is urgently seeking volunteers to serve dinner to our shelter guests.

What to expect:
Serve between 5:30pm- 7:30pm.
Prepare and deliver a meal that can feed at least 30 men.
You can warm up and prepare food in the kitchen on site.
You are always welcome to stay and serve or to drop off the food if serving is not an option. You can also bring family, friends, colleagues, etc.
Please be aware of nut allergies. We also try to avoid pork.

If you're available, your time can make a huge difference to those looking for a warm meal and a friendly face!

New Volunteer Opportunity: Drop-In Center Attendant

🔵 Shift: Monday – Friday | 11 AM – 1 PM
🟢 Help prepare coffee, drinks, and food for guests
🔵 Spend time engaging with participants, offering conversation and support
🟢 Assist with keeping laundry schedules, restocking shelves, and making sure shared spaces run smoothly
🔵 Be an extra helping hand during a busy daytime shift
