Village of Plain City, Ohio

Village of Plain City, Ohio Plain City is a vibrant and rapidly growing community of 4,313 residents located in Madison and Union Counties, Ohio, just northwest of Columbus.

๐ŸŒพ Welcome to Plain City โ€” a proud, modern-rural community where people and businesses come to thrive.
๐Ÿ“ฒ Sharing Village news, events, and services.
๐Ÿ“ž For specific matters, please contact the Village offices at 614-873-3527. A community of rich agricultural heritage, Plain City is known for its small town charm, thriving historic Uptown District, safe neighborhoods, scenic prairie vistas, and excel

lent educational system. But perhaps, Plain City is best known for its Mennonite background and related businesses like The Der Dutchman, which attracts thousands of visitors annually. Plain City is located on the banks of the Big Darby Creek State and National Scenic River, which is noted for its tremendous biodiversity and abundance of aquatic and terrestrial plants and animals. This biodiversity has led to the Big Darby being designated a State and National Scenic River. While Plain City is characterized by its historic โ€œVillage Districtโ€, the community has witnessed extensive residential growth during the past decade. New residential developments, such as Darby Fields, Darby Station, Madison Meadows, The Hamlet on Darby, The Run at Hofbauer Preserve, and others, have been the genesis of extensive population growth and suburban transformation. This growth, together with Plain Cityโ€™s prime location near Interstate 270 and US-33, has made Plain City particularly attractive for future commercial and industrial growth. Community leaders are making strategic investments and executing development plans to ensure that Plain City continues to grow in a smart and sustainable fashion.

๐Ÿ’ฆ The Splash Pad at Public Square is taking shape this summer in anticipation for an August grand opening! ๐Ÿ‘

This week marks one year since we dedicated The Depot at Public Square, and the transformation continues at Plain City's new community hub. Crews have been hard at work constructing the new splash pad, and exciting progress is happening every day at 134 Church Street in Uptown Plain City.

โœ… The Plain City archway has been installed.
๐ŸŒŠ Concrete was poured this week and will soon feature a painted compass design at the splash pad.
๐Ÿš‚ The restored Chessie caboose is in place and the parking lot where it sits will host Plain City Farmers Markets on Thursdays this summer.
๐ŸŒฟ Landscaping improvements are underway.

The splash pad will feature a unique circular compass design with 12 fountains and interactive water features, along with a brick seating wall, artificial turf area, and accessible walking paths. The concrete surface is scheduled to be painted in early July, with curing and final site work continuing throughout the summer. If construction remains on schedule, we anticipate opening the splash pad to the public in August.

As we invest in new community gathering spaces while preserving our local history, it's especially meaningful to do so during America's 250th year. As an officially designated America 250-Ohio community, Plain City is proud to reflect the spirit of growth, preservation, and hometown pride that has defined communities like ours for generations.

Special thanks to local contractor Outdoor FX for bringing the splash pad to life and to Village staff and partners who helped make it happen. A special thank you as well to KR Designs for the signature archway, a welcoming centerpiece for the new Public Square splash pad.

๐Ÿ›ด๐Ÿšฒ Hey, Plain City! We know E-Bikes and E-Scooters are becoming increasingly popular. Here are some friendly reminders and a preview of what's to come regarding future rules and regulations. ๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธ

Plain City Village Council is currently reviewing potential updates to local regulations related to e-bikes, e-scooters, and other micromobility devices. While Ohio Revised Code addresses bicycles and certain classes of e-bikes, there are gaps when it comes to newer devices like electric scooters. In the coming months, Council will consider potential code updates focused on safety, speed limits, sidewalk use, helmet requirements, and other regulations designed to keep everyone safe.

In the meantime, all riders should follow the same common-sense rules that help keep our streets and pathways safe every day:
๐Ÿšฆ Obey traffic laws and signs.
๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ Yield to pedestrians at all times.
โšก Ride at safe speeds for conditions.
๐Ÿ’ก Use lights and reflectors when riding at night.
๐Ÿช– Wear a helmet every ride.

Parents should also know that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under 16 years old should not operate electric scooters. If your child rides an e-bike or scooter, please make sure they wear a helmet, understand the rules of the road, and practice safe riding before traveling on busier streets.

It's easy to think of e-scooters as toys, but they are vehicles capable of speeds up to 20 mph. Recent studies have shown a significant increase in e-scooter injuries nationwide, with head injuries among the most common outcomes when helmets are not worn.

Class 1 (Pedal-Assist): Max 20 mph. Allowed on streets and most shared paths.
Class 2 (Throttle/Pedal): Max 20 mph. Allowed on streets and most shared paths.
Class 3 (High-Speed): Max 28 mph. Must be 16+. Meant for roadways (usually banned on trails).

E-Scooters: Follow the same rules as bicycles. Use lights at night and always wear a helmet!
E-Skateboards / Hoverboards: Watch your speed in crowded areas. Parents, please supervise younger riders closely.

Not allowed on sidewalks, parks, trails, or shared-use paths. They must comply with local vehicle laws and only be ridden where legally permitted.

Whether you're walking, driving, biking, or riding an e-scooter, safety is a shared responsibility. By following the rules of the road and looking out for one another, we can keep Plain City safe for everyone.
