Today we remember Deputy Sheriff Sarah Irene Jones, from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, who succumbed to injuries sustained two days earlier while directing traffic around a minor traffic accident. Deputy Jones responded the accident scene where one vehicle was stranded in a ravine. Deputy Jones was directing traffic around the accident scene when she was struck by a 16-year-old driver.

Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Responds to Evening Structure Fire 🔥

Training for all students will continue as scheduled this week.

PLAINFIELD, Ind. — On the evening of Sunday, October 18, 2026, a fire occurred at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) prior to the arrival of scheduled students. No injuries were reported, and all personnel and students are safe.

The Plainfield Fire Territory responded promptly to the scene and successfully contained the fire to the facility’s main building. The fire caused substantial damage to at least one classroom as well as adjacent office spaces.

Despite the damage to the facility, all student training will resume as scheduled this week.

"We extend our sincere appreciation to the Plainfield Fire Territory for their swift response and effective containment of the fire," said Director Tim Horty. "We appreciate the public's patience and understanding as we navigate the situation and conduct a thorough assessment in the coming days."

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Saturday, October 17, is National Move Over Day, which highlights the critical importance of Move Over Laws across the United States.

⤴️ Switch lanes if able to do so safely or ⚠️ reduce your speed to 10mph under the speed limit and proceed with caution.

A Decatur Central High School Criminal Justice Class visited the ILEA on a field trip today!
The ILEA is a popular field trip destination for High Schools and High School Career Centers throughout the state of Indiana.

Tours at the ILEA are coordinated by Ron Allen, the Staff Compliance Specialist.

Congratulations to the graduates of Instructor Development Course and Senior Instructor Course

This session was unique. The Senior Instructor students spent their second week serving as mentors to the Instructor Development class. They taught several blocks of instruction, reviewed lesson plans, evaluated student presentations and coached the new instructors.
