Sergeant Jeffrey Cox recently completed the Florida Leadership Academy (Class 63) through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Criminal Justice Executive Training Institute.

This four week competitive training is taught exclusively to first line supervisors from across the State of Florida over a four month period.

The course focuses on leadership development through strengthened skills in communication, accountability, professionalism and ethical decision-making.

We extend our congratulations to Sgt. Jeffrey Cox for his completion of the course and Chief Ruggiero's commitment to professional training (both of whom are pictured below).

Our hearts are with the Dade City Police Department and the Pasco Sheriff's Office as they mourn the loss of members from their respective agencies. Regardless of the color of their uniform, sworn or civilian, we grieve the loss of a public servant. Each of whom dedicated their lives to bettering our communities and enriching the lives of those they served.

DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign runs August 19, 2026 though September 7,2026, leading into Labor Day weekend.

If you plan to drink, plan ahead. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare, or find another safe way home. Impaired driving is never worth the risk. Buzzed driving is drunk driving.

Drive sober.
Buckle up.
Get home safely.

The Port Richey Police Department marine unit reminds our boating community to operate safely on the Pithlachascotee River and within the Gulf. We caution boaters to check weather conditions prior to launch and throughout their voyage as each day is not as picturesque as the photos shown.

Our department routinely patrols our waterways but also stands by ready to respond to watercraft emergencies and to aid our boating community with their safety concerns whether they're near shore or by our historic stilt houses.

The Port Richey Police Department is joining other law enforcement agencies across the Southeast United States with the same message in mind, reducing speed related crashes and fatalities on state highways through a week long public education and traffic enforcement initiative called Operation Southern Slow Down.

However, we have unfortunate news to bring to some of you - if you live in Brown Acres off of Ranch Road you may soon notice a lack of water. There is currently a water main break in this area, but you can rest assured that our utilities department is out there doing their best to get the issue resolved quickly and soundly. Thank you all for your patience and understanding until our experts can get this fixed!

Last night, the Port Richey Police Department responded to multiple water rescue as fast-moving storms moved through the area. Thankfully, everyone made it back safely, but it serves as an important reminder that weather on the water can change in minutes.

📍 Let someone know where you’re going and file a float plan.
⚠️ If storms begin to develop, don’t wait—head back to shore immediately.

We were proud to welcome Officer A. Lake to the Port Richey Police Department this past Thursday during a swearing-in ceremony attended by his family and friends.

Guests witnessed Officer Lake take the oath of office and receive his new badge. Bringing prior law enforcement experience to our department, Officer Lake will soon begin the field training process as he prepares to serve the City of Port Richey.

Congratulations, Officer Lake, and welcome to the Port Richey Police Department.
