UPDATE: MAIN ST. CLOSURE

Main street has reopened, currently alternating one lane traffic, will be fully opened shortly.

TRAFFIC ALERT / ROAD CLOSURE

A tree fell and took out the power and utility wires in the 500 block of Main St
between William St and Bartlett St. The tree is across the road. Numerous utility poles have been affected. Please avoid the area. DOT and Eversource are aware and are responding.

UPDATE:

Eversource reported that the repair would take a significant amout of time to repair and could not begin until winds calm down. They advised to treat all downed wires as live and dangerous.

The Portland Police Dept. is attempting to identify the pictured truck and operator. It evaded the scene of a minor motor vehicle accident yesterday 02/15/26 between 3:00pm and 3:30pm, while leaving from the parking lot of the Portland Ale House next to King Smokers. The vehicle left the parking lot towards the Arrigoni Bridge. Please contact the Portland Police Dept. with any additional information. Thank you.

Connecticut State Representative Christie Carpino came to visit this week and had a ride-a-long with Officer Ryan Bengston. Although, not her 1st visit, this was her most recent. We are thankful for her active interest and support in our Police Department and the Town of Portland.

RT66 is now open.

Press Release

There is a serious motor vehicle accident on Rt66 in the ledges near St Clements Castle. Rt66 will be closed at Middle Haddam Rd and at the Cobalt Center / Depot Hill Rd. while the crash is being investgated. LIFE STAR was called for a passenger in one of the cars that was ejected from the vehicle.
