Reminder! Gather will host a Fresh Food Bus market at 124 Heritage Ave. in Portsmouth this Saturday, May 30 from 9am-12pm! 🚍💚

If it’s hard for you to make it to one of Gather's markets during our regular, weekday hours, this Fresh Food Bus market is a great opportunity to shop on a weekend! You’ll find fresh produce, dairy, meats, and pantry staples at no cost, and you can hop on the bus and walk through, shopping as you go.

*Please note: This market will count as a weekly mobile market shop for the week of May 26-May 30. It will not impact members’ monthly shop at Gather’s Pantry market but please note that our Pantry Market will not be open for shopping during this time.

Interested but not yet member? Visit https://gathernh.org/need-food to fill out our online membership form.

Gather is incredibly grateful to Tito's Handmade Vodka for their generous support, which made it possible for us to add an additional refrigerated box truck to our fleet.

From donation pick-ups to delivering nourishing food to the 40+ mobile markets we host each month across the Seacoast, our fleet plays an important role in helping us reduce barriers to food access throughout the region. This new truck allows us to further expand that capacity, and safely and efficiently transport even more fresh, quality foods like fruits, vegetables, protein, milk, eggs, and other essential items — ensuring these foods reach neighbors experiencing hunger in our local communities.

Earlier this spring, members of the Tito’s team joined us for a Seacoast Waste Not pick-up at DiLuigi Foods, and more recently volunteered alongside our Mobile Markets team in Rochester during a distribution. We’re so grateful for their hands-on support, their time, and their commitment to engaging directly with the work happening in our community every day.

Thank you to volunteers from Unitil who joined us at Gather during Granite United Way's Day of Caring earlier this month! The team jumped right in to support our culinary staff in Gather’s Cooking 4 Community production kitchen, helping with food prep and other essential kitchen tasks.

From Gather's Community Food Center in Portsmouth to mobile markets across the Seacoast, volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their time and dedication help Gather provide nourishing food at no cost to our neighbors experiencing hunger, reduce food waste, and strengthen our community.

Slow cookers were simmering during last week’s Rock the Crock session here at Heritage Ave. in Portsmouth – led by Emily Gaddis who manages Gather’s food repurposing kitchen at UNH!

About 30 seniors joined Emily for an afternoon of cooking, learning, and connection. Together, they prepared a bright lemon-herb chicken in the slow cooker and even picked up a new kitchen tip: how to make rice in the oven!

After the demonstration, attendees sat down together to enjoy the recipe they had just learned to make — lemon-herb chicken served with seasonal asparagus and rice, followed by spice cake with brown sugar frosting for dessert. The gathering offered a chance not only to share a nourishing meal, but also to connect with one another, swap ideas, and talk about how they’ll use these new tips and recipes at home.

Each guest left with a copy of the recipe and a Market Basket gift card. New participants also received a miniature slow cooker and a binder to start building their own recipe collection.

About Rock the Crock 🥘

Rock the Crock is an interactive cooking demonstration that teaches participants how to make delicious, nutritious meals in a miniature crock pot.

This award-winning collaboration between Gather, Portsmouth Housing, and the Portsmouth NH Senior Activity Center is about more than cooking. It empowers older adults with the tools and knowledge to eat well, stretch their grocery budgets, and feel confident in the kitchen. Just as importantly, it creates space for connection - bringing people together to share meals, conversation, and community.

Gus the Bus spotted! 🚍

Last weekend, our Fresh Food Bus, a food pantry on wheels, made a special appearance at The City of Dover Community Services Department’s third annual Touch-a-Truck and Open House!

The event gave local families and children the chance to explore the bus, meet Gather team members like Jill, Gather’s Bus Driver, and Mary, our Special Projects Coordinator, and learn more about Gus and Gather’s mission. Kids who stopped by also got to take home some fun goodies!

The Fresh Food Bus is one of the many innovative ways we’re improving access to nutritious food across the Seacoast. Like all of our markets, this mobile pantry provides fresh produce, dairy, meats, and dry goods at no cost to members. Shoppers can hop on at one of our stops and browse the bus market-style as they go.
