🏫 🚌 BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER 🎒 📖

The first day of school is almost here, and the Poth Police Department is excited to welcome our students, teachers, and staff back for a safe and successful school year!

As school buses return to our roads and school zones become busy, we ask everyone to do their part to keep our children safe.

Please remember:

🟡 Slow down and obey all school zone speed limits.

🛑 Always stop when a school bus has its stop arm extended and its red lights are flashing.

📵 Put your phone away and stay focused on driving.

🚸 Watch carefully for children crossing streets, walking on sidewalks, and riding bicycles.

⏰ Leave a few minutes early so you won't feel rushed through school zones.

👮 Be patient and follow the directions of school staff and Police officers during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.

The Poth Police Department will have officers conducting extra patrols and traffic enforcement in and around school zones to help ensure the safety of our students and families.

Let's all work together to make this school year a safe one. Every child deserves to arrive at school—and return home—safely each day.

🚔 TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO MULTIPLE ARRESTS IN POTH 🚔

On Thursday, August 6, 2026, at approximately 11:22 a.m., Chief Sanchez of the Poth Police Department was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 181 in an unmarked vehicle when a vehicle drove up behind and began tailgating him and following extremely close before passing him.

Chief Sanchez conducted a traffic stop on Brinkoeter Street and U.S. Highway 181. Upon contacting the five occupants, Chief Sanchez detected the odor of ma*****na coming from inside the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted, resulting in the discovery of ma*****na, THC, drug paraphernalia, and to***co products.

Four passengers were arrested on various charges, including Possession of Ma*****na, Possession of a Controlled Substance – Penalty Group 2 (THC), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of To***co by a Minor, and multiple outstanding warrants out of Karnes County and the City of Poth.

The 20-year-old female driver was issued traffic citations and released

The four suspects arrested and charged were identified as:

• 19-year-old Alexia Vigil of Karnes City, Texas and charged with:

1-Resisting arrest, search or transport -FTA out of county warrant
2- Interference w/ public duties – FTA out of county warrant
3- Possession of drug paraphernalia- City of Poth warrant
4- Minor in possession of to***co products- City of Poth warrant
5- Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)

• 18-year-old Laceigh Morton of Karnes City, Texas and charged with:

1-Possession of a Controlled Substance PG. 2 1-4 grams (3rd Degree Felony)
2- Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)
3- Minor in possession of to***co products (Class C Misdemeanor)

• 17-year-old Gabriella Phelps of Karnes City, Texas and charged with:

1-Possession of a Controlled Substance PG. 2 < 1gram (State Jail Felony)
2-Possession of Ma*****na < 2 oz. (Class B Misdemeanor)
3- Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)
4- Minor in possession of to***co products (Class C Misdemeanor)

• 20-year-old Michael Baldera (Not Photographed) of Karnes City, Texas and charged with:

1- Possession of drug paraphernalia- City of Poth warrant
2- Minor in possession of to***co products- City of Poth warrant

The Poth Police Department would like to thank Poth Officer Quintanilla, Wilson County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Collins and Deputy Spa for assisting Chief Sanchez during the traffic stop and investigation

All individuals arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Last Seen: 100 block of Natchez Street in Poth, Texas on Sunday August 2, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Makayla current whereabouts are unknown.

🚔 ARRESTS MADE FOLLOWING UNDERAGE DRINKING INVESTIGATION 🚔

On July 4, 2026, approximately 1030 pm, officers with the Poth Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting minors consuming alcoholic beverages at a residence in the 100 block of Natchez Street in Poth.

Upon arrival, officers observed several juveniles running into the residence. Officers made contact with those involved and determined that multiple minors had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

Alcoholic beverage containers were found throughout the property along with a beer pong table, and several juveniles were issued citations for Minor in Possession of Alcohol.

As the investigation continued, officers determined that an adult female resident was aware that a party was taking place at her home and that numerous minors were consuming alcoholic beverages on her property.

Police also determined that the homeowners 22-year-old son had purchased and provided the alcoholic beverages for the minors.

Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, arrest warrants were obtained. The adult female homeowner was arrested for charges related to allowing and facilitating the consumption of alcohol by minors at her residence.

After further investigation, the suspect was identified as 41 year old Perla Fuentes of Poth and was arrested on Wednesday July 22, 2026 and charged with:

1-Furnishing Alcohol to Minors (Class “A” Misdemeanor)

Perlas son was identified as 22 year old Erick Nunez of Poth and currently has an active arrest warrant for Purchasing / Furnishing alcohol to a minor

The Poth Police Department remains committed to protecting the safety of our youths. Providing alcohol to minors or allowing underage drinking gatherings will not be tolerated.

These situations place young lives at risk and can lead to serious injuries, impaired driving, alcohol poisoning, and other tragic consequences.

🚔 Protecting Our Youth: Illegal Alcohol Sales Will Not Be Tolerated 🚔

The Poth Police Department is committed to protecting the safety of our youth and holding those who violate the law accountable.

This investigation began after Poth Police officers conducted a traffic stop on June 17, 2026 in the city of Poth, involving underage occupants and discovered alcoholic beverages and to***co inside the vehicle.

During the investigation, the minors stated they had purchased the alcohol and to***co from a business in Floresville, Texas in the 1100 block of D street.

Officers immediately initiated a follow-up investigation. Through interviews and the evidence gathered, investigators determined there was probable cause to believe the owner of the business had sold alcoholic beverages and to***co to minors without verifying identification, in violation of Texas law.

As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for the business owner. The warrant was executed on Tuesday July 7, 2026, and the owner was taken into custody and charged with Sale to a Minor.

Selling alcohol to minors is a serious offense that places young lives at risk. Underage drinking can lead to impaired driving, alcohol poisoning, injuries, poor decision-making, and tragic consequences that impact families and our entire community.

The Poth Police Department will not tolerate businesses or individuals who knowingly sell or furnish alcoholic beverages to minors. We will continue to investigate these offenses aggressively and take enforcement action to protect our communities and our youth.

After further investigation, the suspect was identified as 40 year old Amrinder Farwaha of Bexar County and was arrested and charged with:

1-Sale to Minors (Class “A” Misdemeanor)

2- Sale to Minors-Tabacco (Class “C” Misdemeanor)

🚔Public Safety Concern Leads to Arrest🚔

On Friday, June 26, 2026, at approximately 12:24 a.m., Officer Guerra received information from a citizen regarding a male subject walking completely naked along U.S. Highway 181 south near Live Oak Street.

Officer Guerra responded immediately and located the individual who appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. While detaining the male suspect he resisted arrest, search or transportation.

After further investigation, the suspect was identified as 39 year old Roy Marroquin Jr. of Wilson County and was arrested and charged with:

1-Public Intoxication (Class “C” Misdemeanor)

2- Disorderly Conduct – Exposure (Class “C” Misdemeanor)

3- Resisting Arrest, Search or Transportation (Class “A” Misdemeanor)

The Poth Police Department would also like to thank the Wilson County Sheriff's Office for their assistance and continued partnership in helping keep our community safe.

We also commend Officer Guerra for his quick response in bringing the situation to a safe resolution.

The safety of our citizens remains our highest priority, and we will continue to respond promptly to calls for service and work diligently to protect our community.

⚠️ ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE ⚠️

🚨 POTH CITY STREET UPDATE 🚨

11:45 am, Tom Street and Griffith Street has been cleared, and the roadway is now open for normal traffic.

The City of Poth will be removing an old hackberry tree on Tom Street at Griffith Street this morning.

The tree is being removed for public safety purposes to help prevent potential hazards and keep our streets safe.

To allow crews to safely complete the work, this area will be closed for a couple of hours.

Please use an alternate route, slow down if you're traveling nearby, and watch for workers and equipment.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work together to keep our community safe.

The Poth Police Department would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff at Emergency Care of Floresville for stopping by and delivering cooling towels and refreshing drinks to help keep our officers cool and hydrated during the summer heat.
