An open house will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the fire station, located at 24335 U.S. 23-S, Presque Isle, MI. Presque Isle Township Fire Department is grateful to our members who offer their time and talents, often late at night, early in the morning and on weekends, sacrificing work, family and leisure time to reliably respond to calls for emergency service in our community. Thank you to our dedicated personnel and all who support the volunteer/paid on call departments in our local townships.

A temporary Disaster Recovery Center will be established at Presque Isle Township Hall, located at 12653 E. Grand Lake Rd., Presque Isle, MI 49777, from Thursday, August 6, 2026, through Monday, August 10, 2026, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be on-site to assist county residents with navigating the federal disaster assistance process.

All residents who sustained property damage or losses during the April flooding are encouraged to visit the center, apply online at www.disasterassistance.gov, or call 1-800-621-3362 for assistance.

Recovery resources may help supplement losses not fully covered by insurance, including FEMA grants for temporary housing, essential home repairs, and other critical disaster-related needs, as well as SBA loans for homeowners, renters, businesses, and private nonprofit organizations to repair or replace damaged real estate and personal property.

To expedite the application process, residents should bring the following items: photo identification, proof of occupancy or ownership, insurance policy information, a description of the damage, household income documentation, Social Security numbers, and direct deposit routing information.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory for Michigan today due to elevated levels of particulates produced from wildfires in Canada. If possible, avoid strenuous outdoors activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory illnesses such as asthma. Yesterday afternoon at the Presque Isle Township Board of Trustees meeting we were proud to have 6 of our members sworn in to new roles on our department by Township Clerk Kate Szydlowski. Congratulations to all of you! We were honored to have a special moment of legacy with long time Fire Chaplain Roger Stauffer pinning his son, our new Fire Chaplain Mike Stauffer. Thank you to the community and the Board of Trustees for all the support!

We have a HIGH HEAT index today, which creates risk for heat and cardiovascular problems, especially in vulnerable people and those with chronic illness. Stay hydrated, stay cool and avoid overexertion.

Hot and humid weather continues today across northern Michigan. Some relief from the heat Wednesday, but there’s increasing likelihood that smoke from Canadian wildfires will filter into much of the state. Scattered rain chances look to hold off until late in the week into the start of the weekend.
