💻🔐 Exploring careers in cybersecurity with the professionals who know them best!

As part of last week’s Cybersecurity Career Week, CTA Cybersecurity students along with additional students from all four CCPS high schools participated in a fireside chat with local cybersecurity industry professionals held at the Prince Frederick library.

Students heard from professionals at different stages of their careers, learned about the different pathways that led them to their current positions, and received valuable advice about pursuing careers in cybersecurity.

A huge thank you to our industry partners and Program Advisory Committee (PAC) members for taking time out of their busy schedules to share their experiences and inspire the next generation of cybersecurity professionals! The panel featured Ann Love from the US Patent Office, Mark Smith from Idea Solutions, Tony Koziana from Zero Networks, Paul Hinders from Booz Allen Hamilton, and Colin Marks from World Wide Technology.

👏 Special thanks to Ms. Burns, CTA Cybersecurity teacher, and Mrs. Phillips, CCPS Career Advising Coordinator, for organizing this fantastic opportunity for students across our county!

Each year, we look forward to our annual school pumpkin contest. Our students decorate pumpkins to display something about their program for our Treats with the Trades event. This project is a great opportunity for our students to practice communication and collaboration skills, teamwork, and more … and, of course… have a little fun, too!

This year, we are so grateful to Mulberry Lane Farm for donating the pumpkins for us!!

🎃 Mulberry Lane Farm Market is a family-owned market on Route 4, in Huntingtown. Owned by Dawn and Mark Mister, it’s built on a love of farming, fresh local food, and community. They offer meats, dairy, eggs, baked goods, seasonal produce, fall decor and more!

They shared: “Giving back to our community is important to us. Our own son attended the Career and Technology Academy, and we’ve seen firsthand the value these programs bring! We’re proud to support the CTA and share a little fall spirit with students and staff! 🎃”

💻🔐 CTA on the national stage!

So proud of our Cybersecurity teacher and SkillsUSA Lead Advisor Robin Burns and Cybersecurity student and SkillsUSA Maryland State Officer Ty Cherry for presenting today at the National Cryptologic Foundation (NCF) Summit on Cybersecurity Education held this year in Columbia, MD.

Their session highlighted how Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), like SkillsUSA, help students develop technical skills, leadership, and confidence that foster the growth of important skills needed for success in the world of IT and Cyber careers.

What an incredible opportunity to share the great things happening at CTA with educators and industry leaders from across the country!

CTA Cybersecurity teacher, Donald Cherry, was also able to attend and be part of the national conference. We look forward to what both Ms. Burns and Mr. Cherry will gain from this valuable PD opportunity that we will be able to apply in our classes here.

Reminder: Two-Hour Early Dismissal for Professional Learning this Wednesday, Sept. 16. Morning and afternoon half-day Pre-K classes will not meet on early release days.

Transportation Reminder for Early Dismissal Days:
🚌 Buses will transport students two hours earlier than usual to their regular afternoon drop-off locations.

Important for Parents of K–2 Students:
An adult must be present at drop-off. If no adult is available, your child will be returned to their school, which may delay transportation for other students later in the day. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
