As our nighttime temperatures are cooling down, just a reminder to be cautious and wildfire aware when discarding wood stove and fireplace ashes. Every year, Maine Forest Rangers respond to wildfires caused by the improper disposal of ashes that still hold heat and ignite nearby vegetation.

Be sure to allow ashes to cool before disposing of them. Place ashes in a tightly covered metal container and keep the ash container at least 10 feet away from the home and any other buildings. Never empty the ashes directly into a trash can or on the ground. Pour water on the ashes. Make sure they are cold to the touch before emptying the container.

Early yesterday morning around 5:30am we were called for an overturned cement truck off of Fort Knox road in the ditch. Thankfully nobody was injured. Huge thank you to Stockton Springs Fire Dept, Leonards Heavy Rescue as well as the Department of Environmental Protection for assisting in the smooth removal of the cement truck. Thank you to the residents and commuters for your patience while we had the road shutdown.
