Providence Police and Fire personnel remain on scene of a 3-alarm fire in the area of 160 Carpenter Street. Multiple homes were impacted, and emergency crews continue operations in the area.

Residents and motorists are asked to avoid Carpenter Street and surrounding roads to allow first responders to work safely. Traffic delays and road closures are expected.

The fire is currently under control and all known occupants safely evacuated. The cause remains under investigation.

The Providence Police Department mourns the loss of Officer John “Trigger” Abatiello, who passed away surrounded by family after 32 years of dedicated service to our city. A proud Marine Corps veteran and respected member of our department, Officer Abatiello devoted his entire career to patrol and serving the Providence community.

We honor his service, loyalty, and commitment. He will be deeply missed.

Three individuals are facing charges following a joint investigation by the Providence Police Department and the RI Attorney General’s Violent Crime Initiative into an alleged large-scale drug trafficking operation operating in and around Providence. More than four kilograms of suspected co***ne, a firearm, cash, vehicles and other evidence were seized during court-authorized searches.

Providence is ready for a historic summer!

Starting June 11, the first-ever FIFA-sanctioned PVD FanZone at Station Park will welcome thousands of visitors from around the world for a summer filled with live match broadcasts, music, local food vendors, interactive games and community programming, all at no cost.

As we prepare for increased activity downtown, public safety remains our top priority. The City has worked closely with local, state and federal partners to develop a comprehensive safety and operations plan to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for residents and visitors alike.

🚧 Traffic Advisory:
From June 1 through August 1, Finance Way will be closed from Francis Street to Exchange Street. Gaspee Street will also be reduced to one lane between Smith Street and Francis Street, with possible full closures on select event days.

Visitors are encouraged to use RIPTA, rideshare services or park at Providence Place and enter via Promenade Street.
