Today, January 11, is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
Human trafficking happens in big cities and small towns. It can involve forced labor or commercial s*x through force, fraud, or coercion.
Know a few common warning signs.
1. Someone seems controlled by another person and cannot come and go freely.
2. They do not have their own ID, money, or phone.
3. They cannot speak for themselves, or someone answers for them.
4. They seem fearful, watchful, coached, or unusually anxious around authority.
5. They work long hours with little pay, no breaks, or unsafe conditions.
If you suspect trafficking, do not confront the trafficker.
If there is immediate danger, call 911.
