UPDATE, Friday, August 14 — The Heise road east of the Heise Bridge is OPEN this morning. Although the slopes have stabilized, additional rain and debris flow are possible. Please use extreme caution and report instances of mud flow to Jefferson County dispatch at 208-745-9210. The gravel road to the west of the bridge (Cress Creek access) remains closed.

⚠️ HEISE ROAD CLOSURE & SAFETY UPDATE⚠️

Heise Road is closed at the Snake River Bridge on 5050 E due to heavy rainfall and dangerous conditions in the area.

The Big Rock Fire left a burn scar on the hillside, increasing the risk of additional mudslides, falling debris, and flooding.

Residents in the affected area are strongly encouraged to stay inside their homes, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay off the ridge above the Heise area.

Stay alert for emergency notifications and follow all instructions from emergency officials. If you receive a Ready, Set, Go notification, follow the instructions immediately.

Please do not enter the closed area unless you live there, and use extreme caution if you must travel in or out. Conditions can change quickly.

More rain is expected, and worsening conditions are possible. Please take this warning seriously and follow instructions from emergency officials.

Heise Road at the Snake River Bridge on 5050 E has been closed due to heavy rainfall in the area causing mudslides. The Big Rock Fire has created a fire scar, meaning there is no vegetation to keep rocks and soil on the hillside. Residents in the area are encouraged to stay inside of their homes, avoid the area and stay off of the ridge above the Heise area. More rain is in the forecast and we are expecting worsening conditions.

There is currently a large fire in the Heise area of Jefferson County. Crews are working the fire and have started evacuations of residences and campers, up to the ski resort.

All roads going to Heise and Kelly Canyon are closed and will remain closed until it is safe to reopen them. Central Fire District has requested air assistance. Madison Fire and Bonneville Fire have also been called in to assist.

Sheriff Anderson requests the public avoid the area and follow any evacuation orders given. Also, please keep drones away from the area.

Progress is happening! 🚦

To keep the project moving while minimizing disruptions, the intersection will be closed Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Friday so crews can install all four traffic signal poles overnight.

This work is a major step toward having the new signal operational before the start of the school year.

Thanks for your patience as we work to improve safety for everyone who uses this intersection.
