From May 11 through May 31, 2026, officers across Idaho will be participating in a statewide seat belt enforcement campaign. During this time, law enforcement will be actively issuing citations to those not wearing their seat belts and educating our communities on the importance of buckling up—every trip, every time.

Currently, 86% of Idahoans wear their seat belt. That’s a strong majority—but we can do better.

Let’s make it 100%.

April 6 to April 13, 2026, Rigby Police will have extra patrols out for the Distracted Driving Grant issued by Idaho Transportation Department's Office of Highway Safety (OHS) and law enforcement agencies across Idaho partnering with ISP and agencies across the state.

What Is Distracted Driving?

Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, searching for lost/dropped items, horseplay inside the vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system — anything that takes your eyes and attention away from the task of safe driving.

Besides financial penalties, (texting while driving first offense is $131.50) Using a cell phone, while driving creates an enormous potential for deaths and injuries on our roads.

Distracted driving is dangerous, claiming 3,208 lives in 2024.
