As Lead Poisoning Prevention Week comes to a close, weโ€™re celebrating an amazing week spent connecting with families all across our community! ๐Ÿ’š

We had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people and share simple ways to help keep children safe from lead poisoning. Did you know that lead paint often looks like alligator scales as it peels and cracks? Knowing what to look for is one important step in protecting your family.

We wrapped up the week in style at the Brand Hardin Sims Roanoke City TAP Head Start Center, and we couldnโ€™t have asked for a better way to end such a meaningful week.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and joined us in spreading awareness. As Lead Poisoning Prevention Week comes to an end, we hope you and your family continue to celebrate staying Lead Safe every day!

๐Ÿ’š Healthy Homes. Healthy Kids. Lead Safe Families.

๐Ÿšจ Lead poisoning can have a lasting impact on a childโ€™s brain and ability to learn.

Even low levels of lead exposure can affect how children think, behave, and perform in school.

๐Ÿ“š How lead can affect learning:

Lower IQ and problem-solving skills

Difficulty with reading and math

Problems with memory and processing information

Trouble following instructions and learning new things

๐Ÿง  How lead can affect behavior:

Difficulty paying attention

Hyperactivity and impulsive behavior

Trouble controlling emotions

Increased aggression or classroom disruptions

Over time, serious lead exposure can also increase the risk of falling behind in school, repeating a grade, needing special education services, or dropping out of high school.

Protecting children from lead exposure is an important part of protecting their health, development, and future. ๐Ÿ’™
