One of the privileges of serving as President of the NYS Association of County Clerks has been working with and getting to know New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Acting Commissioner Christian Jackstadt. Despite being handed the reigns during the middle of the largest modernization project in DMV history, Christian did not shy away from the challenges. Growing our partnership between NYSDMV and County Clerks helps us better serve all New Yorkers, thank you again for your leadership!

Today marks 25 years since one of our darkest days in American history. Today we remember and honor all of the victims from the September 11th terror attacks and pledge to never forget. We also must recognize all of the sacrifices families across New York and this Nation have given since, from all the first responders to ran towards danger and those who suffer from their time at Ground Zero.

Today we recognize all of our brothers, sisters and siblings or organized labor. Without the persistent work of Unions, our Nation would not be what it is today. As we look ahead to the challenges we face, workers voices must be heard in any room where decisions are made.

Gloria Steinem was fearless. At a time when women could not even apply for a credit card in their own name (that did not come until 1974 ladies) Gloria was a leading voice in the women's rights and liberation movement. Without her passion and work, my professional career would have never been possible.

Let us honor Gloria's legacy by never ending the fight for equality. As she said, "When unique voices are united in a common cause, they make history.”

A pioneering activist and journalist, Steinem was one of the women’s liberation movement’s most outspoken advocates.
